  • Patent number: 11387619
Abstract: An optical system allows sharing of optical components and seed and pump light to achieve desired optical amplification in laser light while reducing the number of optical components and complexity of the overall optical system and achieving improved performance in lasers and reduced cost in fabrication and final lasers for large scale production of such lasers. Different optical gain sections can be used to allow for sharing of seed and pump light and sharing of optical components while providing multi-stage optical amplification.

  • Patent number: 8964801
Abstract: A laser system includes an injection laser source having an output and operable to provide a laser output characterized by a first wavelength, a first linewidth, an output power. The laser system also includes a tunable pulsed source characterized by a gain bandwidth. The tunable pulsed source is operable to provide an output signal having an average power. The output signal includes a plurality of optical pulses. Each of the plurality of optical pulses is characterized by a second wavelength, a second linewidth, and a peak power. The laser system further includes an optical combiner having a first port coupled to the output of the injection laser source, a second port coupled to the tunable pulsed source, and a third port.

  • Patent number: 7957623
Abstract: A system for fiber optic packaging includes a first substrate and a first deformable pad coupled to the first substrate. The first deformable pad is characterized by a thermal conductivity greater than 1 W/mK. The system also includes a fiber coil having at least a portion embedded in the first deformable pad to provide physical contact between the at least a portion of the fiber coil and the first deformable pad. The system further includes a second substrate coupled to the fiber coil and at least a portion of the first deformable pad.

  • Patent number: 7903697
Abstract: A tunable pulsed laser includes a seed source and an optical circulator. The optical circulator includes at least a first port coupled to the seed source, a second port, and a third port. The laser also includes an amplitude modulator characterized by a first optical side and a second optical side. The first optical side is coupled to the second port of the optical circulator. The laser further includes a first optical amplifier characterized by an input end and a reflective end. The input end is optically coupled to the second side of the amplitude modulator. The laser additionally includes a tap coupler optically coupled to the amplitude modulator and characterized by a pre-determined split ratio. Moreover, the laser includes a first photo-detector optically coupled to the tap coupler and adapted to receive a portion of the seed signal transmitted through the amplitude modulator and to generate an output signal.

  • Patent number: 6888624
Abstract: This invention provides a method of obtaining accurate measurements of polarization dependent loss and insertion loss during the tests aiming at measuring the polarization properties of optical components. This is achieved by taking into account every polarization disturbance in the line between generation of known states of polarization and the device under test. The method involves computing within a desired range of wavelengths either the transfer matrix of each polarization perturbing element or of all polarization perturbing elements as a whole, and compensating for errors introduced by these polarization perturbing elements.
