  • Patent number: 10625977
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for detecting potential failures in logging winch systems to enable efficient maintenance are provided. An example of such a system may include a logging winch system that conveys a downhole tool into a wellbore on a cable and a data processing system. The logging winch system may include sensors that measure observed quantities relating to operation of the logging winch system. The data processing system may determine correlation signatures that relate the observed quantities to the operation of the logging winch system and may identify when one or more of the correlation signatures indicates abnormal operation.

  • Patent number: 10207905
Abstract: A winch controller for a hoisting apparatus for a wireline operation operates as a closed loop controller. The winch controller is adapted to control a winch or, if included, a winch and a capstan in a coordinated manner. The winch controller may utilize process variables including the tension of the cable between the winch and the capstan. The controller is coupled to a power pack adapted to power the winch and capstan. The power pack and controller are configured such that the capstan may be selectively removed from the system when it is not needed.

  • Publication number: 20180355682
Abstract: Oil field services apparatus and method. The apparatus comprises a conveyance system operable for lowering and retrieving a downhole tool in and out of a wellbore. The conveyance system comprises a drum operable for rotating and receiving a line connectable with the downhole tool, a motor-generator mechanically connected with the drum, and an energy storage electrically connected with the motor-generator. The motor-generator may be operable for receiving electrical energy to impart torque to the drum and receiving torque from the drum to generate electrical energy. The energy storage may be operable for storing electrical energy received from the motor-generator.
