  • Patent number: 7685252
Abstract: A new application programming language is provided which is based on user interaction with any device which a user is employing to access any type of information. The new language is referred to herein as a “Conversational Markup Language (CML). In a preferred embodiment, CML is a high level XML based language for representing “dialogs” or “conversations” the user will have with any given computing device. For example, interaction may comprise, but is not limited to, visual based (text and graphical) user interaction and speech based user interaction. Such a language allows application authors to program applications using interaction-based elements referred to herein as “conversational gestures.” The present invention also provides for various embodiments of a multimodal browser capable of supporting the features of CML in accordance with various modality specific representations, e.g., HTML based graphical user interface (GUI) browser, VoiceXML based speech browser, etc.

  • Publication number: 20080301543
Abstract: In a network environment that includes a plurality of nodes and that uses a markup language to create documents, a method for filtering the documents is provided. The method includes the step of, upon receiving a request from a requesting node among the plurality of nodes, constructing an input Document Object Model (DOM) based on a document corresponding to the request. The input DOM is stored. Elements of the input DOM that have previously been stored are identified. The input DOM is filtered to obtain a filtered DOM, based on at least one pre-specified rule being applied to the input DOM.

  • Publication number: 20080225845
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are disclosed for transmitting data, such as biometric data or Internet telephone data, in a packet network. Packets are split and interchanged prior to transmission across a packet network, such that packets that teach their destination may be processed, even in the presence of lost or delayed packets. Packets of biometric data, such as fingerprints, retinal scans or voice characteristics, or sampled voice packets are split, and optionally interchanged prior to transmission. If some packets are lost or delayed, while some of the packets reach their destination and provide sufficient data for user identification, then the user may be authenticated without requesting the retransmission of the lost or delayed data. If some packets are lost or delayed, while some packets teach their destination, then the received speech samples may be reproduced without requesting the retransmission of the lost or delayed data.

  • Patent number: 7360248
Abstract: A global positioning system (GPS)-based access control method and apparatus are disclosed for limiting access to a device or secure facility by verifying the location of an authorized user. The GPS-based access control system confirms that the user requesting access to a device or secure location is physically present at the location of the device or secure location. Upon an access control request, the location of the user is obtained using an individual GPS system carried by each user on a portable device, such as a pocket token, computer-readable card, cellular telephone or watch. If the location of a person making an access control request does not coincide with the coordinates of the individual GPS that is being worn by the authorized user associated with the password, then the person requesting access is unauthorized.

  • Patent number: 6751590
Abstract: The present invention uses acoustic feature transformations, referred to as pattern-specific maximum likelihood transformations (PSMLT), to model the voice print of speakers in either a text dependent or independent mode. Each transformation maximizes the likelihood, when restricting to diagonal models, of the speaker training data with respect to the resulting voice-print model in the new feature space. Speakers are recognized (i.e., identified, verified or classified) by appropriate comparison of the likelihood of the testing data in each transformed feature space and/or by directly comparing transformation matrices obtained during enrollment and testing. It is to be appreciated that the principle of pattern-specific maximum likelihood transformations can be extended to a large number of pattern matching problems and, in particular, to other biometrics besides speech.

  • Patent number: 6735695
Abstract: A biometrics security method and apparatus are disclosed that restrict the ability of a user to access a device or facility using a portion of biometric data to validate the user's identity. Upon a user request to access a secure device or facility, the central biometric security system initially sends a first request for a specific sample of a portion of the user's biometric information. The specific sample may be identified, for example, using a set of image coordinates. A second request is also sent to retrieve the biometric prototype from a database of registered users. The central biometric security system then compares the user biometrics portion with the corresponding biometrics prototype portions. The user receives access to the requested device if the user biometrics portion(s) matches the corresponding biometrics prototype portions. In one variation, the biometric security system transmits a security agent to the user's computing device upon a user request to access a remote device.

  • Patent number: 6665644
Abstract: A method for collecting data associated with the voice of a voice system user includes conducting a plurality of conversations with a plurality of voice system users. For each conversation, a speech waveform is captured and digitized, and at least one acoustic feature is extracted. The features are correlated with at least one attribute such as gender, age, accent, native language, dialect, socioeconomic classification, educational level and emotional state. Attribute data and at least one identifying indicia are stored for each user in a data warehouse, in a form to facilitate subsequent data mining thereon. The resulting collection of stored data is then mined to provide information for modifying underlying business logic of the voice system. An apparatus suitable for carrying out the method includes a dialog management unit, an audio capture module, an acoustic from end, a processing module and a data warehouse.

  • Patent number: 6477500
Abstract: Feature vectors representing each of a plurality of overlapping frames of an arbitrary, text independent speech signal are computed and compared to vector parameters and variances stored as codewords in one or more codebooks corresponding to each of one or more enrolled users to provide speaker dependent information for speech recognition and/or ambiguity resolution. Other information such as aliases and preferences of each enrolled user may also be enrolled and stored, for example, in a database. Correspondence of the feature vectors may be ranked by closeness of correspondence to a codeword entry and the number of frames corresponding to each codebook are accumulated or counted to identify a potential enrolled speaker. The differences between the parameters of the feature vectors and codewords in the codebooks can be used to identify a new speaker and an enrollment procedure can be initiated.
