  • Publication number: 20090182895
Abstract: A computer system that attempts to establish an alternative network link upon failing to establish a requested network link is described. The computer system may encounter conditions where access to numerous networks, in particular wireless networks, is not available. Rather than only providing an error message to the user upon a failed attempt to establish the requested network link, the computer system determines whether the user has designated an alternative network link in case the requested network link cannot be established, whereas the alternative network link is selected from the plurality of network links that the computer system is configured to support. If an alternative network link has been designated, the computer system attempts to establish the alternative network link. Hence, the user experience is made smooth and uneventful when the requested network link cannot be established.

  • Publication number: 20090132717
Abstract: Video on demand (VoD) and other video streaming and delivery mechanisms are provided using a messaging protocol (e.g., a session initiation protocol (SIP))-based approach that builds upon existing service delivery platforms. In one example, SIP functionality is extended to provide the ability to control and alter a delivery mode of a content stream, such as to change a playback mode or quality of service, by providing such requests as part of the instruction or payload of existing SIP messages, or by providing new SIP messages. Using SIP allows for third party control, such as by IPTV applications, which is not provided by current Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP)-based systems. SIP also can establish a peer-to-peer connection between a client and a SIP-enabled content server to allow the client to directly control the media stream. As an advantage over RTSP, SIP provides for bi-directional messaging between SIP endpoints.

  • Publication number: 20090125595
Abstract: Intelligent message processing is provided for person to person (P2P) messaging by intercepting the message and processing the message before directing the message to the recipient. The messaging system then acts as a person to application (P2A) and application to person (A2P) system, wherein any P2P message can be intercepted and processed as necessary. Such functionality allows any desired processing of the message, such as to allow for transformation, charging, content filtering, screening, parsing, and any other such processing. Further, such an approach allows the message to be received from the sender and directed to the recipient on different channels. A messaging enabler allows the message to be processed using application logic and/or Web services, for example.

  • Publication number: 20090112875
Abstract: An identity management tool provides identity management across multiple domains, providing a single access point not only for information for runtime, network, and service layer information, but also for systems such as business support systems (BSS), operational support systems (OSS), and third party systems. The identity management tool creates a unified user profile that maps customer identities across the various domains, and presents the information in a virtual directory wherein the information appears to come from a single source, creating a central data hub for the various systems. This aggregation provides for the same experience and service across various access networks and using various channels. Such an architecture allows billing and service information to be shared with subscription and customer information, even though the data is substantially unrelated data from disparate data sources, without the need to combine schemas or aggregate the data into a single data store.

  • Publication number: 20080064394
Abstract: In one embodiment, a method of allowing a user to roam from one wireless network and interact with an Internet-based application is disclosed. The method comprises establishing a connection between a wireless mobile device and a first wireless network, wherein the connection allows the wireless mobile device to interact with an Internet-based application; tracking a state of interaction between the wireless mobile device and the Internet-based application; terminating the connection between the wireless mobile device and the first wireless network; establishing a connection between the wireless mobile device and a second wireless network; and sending, to the Internet-based application, data representing a state of interaction of the wireless mobile device with the Internet-based application prior to terminating the connection between the wireless mobile device and the first wireless network.

  • Publication number: 20080008173
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are disclosed for transmitting data, such as biometric data or Internet telephone data, in a packet network. Packets we split and interchanged prior to transmission across a packet network, such that packets that reach their destination may be processed, even in the presence of lost or delayed packets. Packets of biometric data, such as fingerprints, retinal scans or voice characteristics, of sampled voice packets are split, and optionally interchanged prior to transmission. If some packets are lost or delayed, while some of the packets teach their destination and provide sufficient data for user identification, then the user may be authenticated without requesting the retransmission of the lost or delayed data. If some packets are lost or delayed, while some packets reach their destination, then the received speech samples may be reproduced without requesting the retransmission of the lost or delayed data.

  • Publication number: 20070276907
Abstract: Systems, methods, and machine-readable media are disclosed for providing customization to routing of messages in a system where routing is based on stored addresses, such as, for example, a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) system. In one embodiment, a method of providing customized routing of messages can comprise receiving a message to a target endpoint at a system for signaling between endpoints. The system can have one or more stored addresses (Target SIP URIs) for each of a plurality of endpoints. One or more target Sip URIs for the target endpoint can be determined from the stored target SIP URIs. One or more policies can be applied to the one or more target SIP URIs for the target endpoint. The one or more policies can comprise a set of one or more conditions and one or more actions associated with each condition.

  • Publication number: 20070263827
Abstract: A system and method is described for managing a phone call to a phone device of a personal digital assistant, the phone call being transmitted from a device in a mobile phone network. In one example, the method involves determining a status of a radio switch of the personal digital assistant. The personal digital assistant determines a status of the network coverage of the phone device. In other words, the personal digital assistant determines the relative strength of the phone call signal that is transmitted to the phone device from the mobile phone network. If the radio switch is turned on and the network coverage is adequate, the phone device receives the phone call. A user of the personal digital assistant preferably has an option of answering or not answering the phone call. If the phone call is not answered, the phone call is preferably redirected to a voicemail application.
