  • Patent number: 6927202
Abstract: A concentrated, aqueous fabric softening composition comprises (a) an ester-linked quaternary ammonium fabric softening material comprising at least one mono-ester linked component and at least one tri-ester linked component, the material being derived from fatty groups having an iodine value of from 0 to 3 and (b) an ester-linked quaternary ammonium fabric softening material comprising at least one mono-ester linked component and at least one tri-ester linked component, the material being derived from fatty groups having an iodine value of from 20 to 140 wherein the total amount of unsaturated monoester component of material (b) is from 4 to 20% by weight of the total amount of (a) and (b).
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 19, 2002
Date of Patent: August 9, 2005

  • Patent number: 6727220
Abstract: The invention provides a fabric softening composition comprising: i) at least one nonionic fabric, and ii) at least one anionic surfactant, and iii) at least one cationic polymer wherein the particles formed from i), ii) and iii) have a net negative charge and the composition comprises no more than 1% by weight non-polymeric cationic surfactant and/or cationic fabric softening compounds. The compositions give good fabric softening without decreasing absorbency, and deposit well without being detrimentally affected by anionic carry-over from the wash. Also provided is a method of depositing a nonionic fabric softening agent from a fabric softening composition, comprising emulsifying the agent with an anionic surfactant and a cationic polymer or emulsifying the agent with an anionic surfactant and then post-dosing an aqueous solution of a cationic polymer to form a particle having an overall negative charge and treating fabric therewith.
