Publication number: 20240194973Abstract: Presented are thermal management systems using coolant flow distribution plates for immersion cooling of battery cells, methods for making/using such systems, and vehicles equipped with such systems for cooling the vehicles' battery packs. A battery assembly includes multiple battery cells arranged in adjacent, mutually parallel cell rows. The battery cells are stored inside a protective battery housing that includes inlet and outlet fluid ports for receiving and evacuating therethrough dielectric coolant fluid. A pair of (first and second) separator plates is located between each neighboring pair of cell rows. Each plate includes coolant channels that are arranged in mutually parallel channel bands. The separator plates are in face-to-face contact with each other such that each channel band of the first separator plate is aligned with a respective channel band of the second plate so the coolant channels cooperatively distribute coolant fluid onto and vertically upward between the battery cells.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 7, 2022Publication date: June 13, 2024Applicant: GM GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS LLCInventors: William Yu Chen, Chih-hung Yen, Stephane Watts, Frederic Albergucci

Patent number: 9097253Abstract: The scroll compressor includes stationary and moving scrolls each including a scroll plate provided with a spiral wrap, the spiral wraps defining the variable-volume compression chambers, a separating plate mounted on the scroll plate of the stationary scroll and defining with the latter a first intermediate volume, and a delivery chamber defined by the separating plate and the sealed casing. The compressor includes a bypass passage arranged to communicate the first intermediate volume with an intermediate compression chamber, a flow passage arranged to communicate the first intermediate volume with the delivery chamber, and a bypass valve associated with the flow passage, each bypass valve associated with a flow passage mounted on the surface of the separating plate turned toward the delivery chamber and movable between closing and opening positions for closing and opening the flow passage.Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 2011Date of Patent: August 4, 2015Assignee: DANFOSS COMMERCIAL COMPRESSORSInventors: Pierre Ginies, Jean-Francois Le Coat, Dominique Gross, Patrick Jallat, Stephane Watts

Patent number: 9017050Abstract: The scroll refrigeration compressor includes a stationary volute and a moving volute provided with spiral wraps defining variable-volume compression chambers, a separating member sealably mounted on a plate of the stationary volute so as to allow a relative movement between the separating member and the stationary volute, a delivery chamber at least partially defined by the separating member and the sealed casing. The compressor further includes a bypass passage arranged to communicate the delivery chamber with an intermediate compression chamber, and a anti-return device comprising a closing member movable between closing and opening positions for closing and opening the bypass passage, and an enclosure, positioned between the separating member and the plate of the stationary volute, including a first portion sealably mounted in a housing defined by the separating member and oriented substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the compressor.Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 2011Date of Patent: April 28, 2015Assignee: Danfoss Commercial CompressorsInventors: Pierre Ginies, Mickael Bron, Dominique Gross, Stephane Watts, Franck Meynand

Patent number: 8864479Abstract: A machine having two volute casings describing an orbital relative movement, one of the volute casings being fitted with at least one scroll and the other volute casing being equipped with at least two scrolls, the various scrolls delimiting a first series of variable-volume chambers belonging to a first compression or expansion stage, and a second series of variable-volume chambers belonging to a second compression or expansion stage, each stage having a high-pressure fluid passage and low-pressure fluid passage. A portion of the low-pressure fluid passage of the second stage is designed to open into one of the chambers of the second stage and is further away from the zone of convergence of the scrolls delimiting the variable-volume chambers of the second stage than a portion of the high-pressure fluid passage of the first stage that is designed to open into one of the chambers of the first stage.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 2010Date of Patent: October 21, 2014Assignee: Danfoss Commercial CompressorsInventors: Stephane Watts, Patrice Bonnefoi, Pierre Ginies

Patent number: 8167594Abstract: A scroll compressor comprises a non-orbiting scroll member having a base and a generally spiral wrap extending from its base, and an orbiting scroll member having a base and a generally spiral wrap extending from its base. The wraps of the non-orbiting and orbiting scroll members interfit to define compression chambers. A drive shaft causes the orbiting scroll member to orbit relative to the non-orbiting scroll member. At least one of the non-orbiting and orbiting scroll operate to move in an axial direction toward the other of the non-orbiting and orbiting scroll members. The scroll compressor supplies a bias force to bias the at least one scroll member toward the other. A first of the non-orbiting and orbiting scroll members have at least a portion of its surface formed of a material that is harder than the material that it will contact on a second of the non-orbiting and orbiting scroll members, such that upon start-up there will be run-in and removal of the material.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 2009Date of Patent: May 1, 2012Assignee: Scrolllabs CorporationInventors: Shimao Ni, Stéphane Watts
