  • Patent number: 9988943
Abstract: A fitting according to an exemplary aspect of the present disclosure includes, among other things, a main body portion having a first axial end and a second axial end opposite the first axial end, an inlet provided at the first axial end, and an outlet adjacent the second axial end. The outlet includes a plurality of circumferentially spaced-apart slots formed through the main body portion, and each slot has an area within a range of 0.52 and 0.59 square inches.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 27, 2015
Date of Patent: June 5, 2018
    Assignee: UNITED TECHNOLOGIES CORPORATION
Inventors: James P. Chasse, Jr., Ryan K. Snyder, William K. Ackermann, Pellegrino J. Pisacreta, Judith F. Brooks, Stephanie Ernst
  • Patent number: 9945411
Abstract: A disclosed lock washer includes a first opening spaced apart from a second opening for receiving fasteners and preventing rotation. A first set of tabs is associated with the first opening and a second set of tabs is associated with the second opening. Each of the first and second set of tabs are bendable to a lock position preventing rotation of a fastener received within a corresponding one of the first opening and the second opening.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 31, 2012
Date of Patent: April 17, 2018
    Assignee: United Technologies Corporation
Inventors: Meggan H. Harris, James P. Allore, Jorge I. Farah, Stephanie Ernst
  • Publication number: 20160341070
Abstract: A gas turbine engine includes a containment ring to contain liberated compressor and turbine blades and blade fragments within a core assembly. The combination of a containment gap between the core case and the containment ring and a containment layer disposed in the gap helps dissipate the energy generated by loose body impacts on the core assembly. The containment layer deforms, deflects, and/or redirects the impact energy acting in a radial direction, thereby to improve containment.

  • Publication number: 20160341075
Abstract: A gas turbine engine includes a core assembly with a core case having a containment section for containing liberated compressor and turbine blades and blade fragments. The containment section includes first and second containment layers and the containment section is configured to have a non-linear rate of energy dissipation across the first and second containment layers, thereby to improve containment of blades and blade fragments.
