Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are disclosed for automatically generating software and configuring software application installation. Some embodiments may include a method of configuring one or more hardware resources within an enterprise, the method comprising the acts of installing at least one software application on the one or more hardware resources, orienting one or more logical areas within the one or more hardware resources, implementing one or more communication protocols between the one or more logical areas, and generating infrastructure for the at least one software application during the act of installing, wherein the infrastructure is based on predetermined choices.

Abstract: A computer-based method for generating a Web service. The method includes identifying first and second service components for inclusion in the Web service, which includes locating available services using service detectors that use differing search techniques and displaying the located services to the user to allow the user to make a selection to identify the first and second service components. The method continues with generating a description or contract for the Web service defining service behavior including invoking rules. A transport structure is then created for accessing the new Web service such as a transmission envelope. The Web service is advertised as being available on the communications network including registering the Web service with a services registry linked to the communications network.

The method includes generating a model, such as a sequence diagram, of the enterprise application showing the tiers with standard responsibilities assigned to a client tier, a Web tier, a business logic tier, and an enterprise information system tier. The standard functions are assigned by identifying protocol services and mapping these to the tiers. Business functions for the application are identified with use cases. The basic business services are then mapped to the enterprise application model. This model is then further modified, such as by subdividing the tiers into subtiers, and mapping the detailed business services to the appropriate tiers. The method continues with identifying of architectural goals or capabilities and modifying of the enterprise application model to map or implement the architectural services associated with each goal to the tiers.
