  • Patent number: 6147629
Abstract: A method and apparatus for decoding variable length encoded signals is described. A decoder receives an encoded bitstream. The decoder retrieves N bits from the bitstream. The decoder retrieves a first value from a first table using the N bits. The decoder retrieves a second value from a second table using the first value, and determines whether the second value is a valid code. If the second value is a valid code, the decoder parses the second value to retrieve a run value, an amp value and a code length value.

  • Patent number: 5818449
Abstract: A system and method for renaming a title of a window that has been created and is currently displayed on a computer screen. When a user wants to rename a window's title, the user first brings the window into focus; that is, he makes the desired window the active window. The user then presses a hot-key, or key combination. Upon receiving the hot-key, the present invention displays a pop-up window prompting the user for a new window title. After entering the text for the new window title, the present invention changes the title of the active window to the new title that the user entered. In addition, the present invention ensures that the new title is reflected in a task list of executing applications.

  • Patent number: 5778104
Abstract: The present invention is an adaptive luminance filter for filtering digital images. The present invention preserves annotation that is overlaid on a natural image background. Non-color specific filtering is used to preserve the clarity of the annotation. Images processed with the filter of the present invention are smoothed to varying degrees at each point in the image, depending on the luminance of the picture elements in the surrounding area. As a result, non-annotation areas are smoothed and annotation areas are left unfiltered. This allows higher than normal image quality to be produced and also allows the images to be compressed with greater efficiency.
