  • Patent number: 8774204
Abstract: A handheld field maintenance bus monitor is provided. The handheld field maintenance bus monitor is coupleable to at least one process communication loop, and is configured to capture and store a selected quantity of digital communication observed on the process communication loop during a capture period. Optionally, the handheld field maintenance bus monitor may be configured to couple to and interact with process communication loops of at least two different process communication protocols, such as HART® and FOUNDATION™. A method of analyzing captured and stored communication data is also provided.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 25, 2006
Date of Patent: July 8, 2014
    Assignee: Fisher-Rosemount Systems, Inc.
Inventors: Stephen A. Zielinski, Thomas M. Bell, Anthony D. Ferguson, Brian A. Franchuk
  • Patent number: 7953501
Abstract: A process control loop monitor includes a housing configured to mount in the field of an industrial process. A loop interface circuit couples to a process control loop and receives data from the process control loop. A memory stores data received by the loop interface circuit from the process control loop.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 25, 2006
Date of Patent: May 31, 2011
    Assignee: Fisher-Rosemount Systems, Inc.
Inventors: Stephen A. Zielinski, Thomas M. Bell
  • Patent number: 7793203
Abstract: A method of communicating over an H1 Fieldbus network is provided. The communication over the H1 Fieldbus network employs an advanced form of error correction. In one embodiment, the advanced form of error correction utilizes low-density parity check codes; while in another embodiment, the advanced error correction employs turbo codes. The use of the advanced error correction with the H1 foundation Fieldbus network allows for higher data transmission speeds than 31.25 kbps and/or lower signaling levels than used currently.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 7779163
Abstract: Devices in a process control system communicate by data messages over a communication medium segment. Each device includes a communication controller that maintains an order of occurrence of events received from and transmitted to a communication medium. The communication controller includes an order of occurrence identification (OOO_ID) counter and an event queue memory. The event queue memory sequentially stores an event type identifier for each event that is processed by the communication controller. The OOO_ID counter provides an OOO_ID to associate with each event type identifier.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: August 17, 2010
    Assignee: Fisher-Rosemount Systems, Inc.
Inventors: Brian A. Franchuk, Roger R. Benson, Stephen A. Zielinski
  • Patent number: 7587662
Abstract: Noise is detected within an operating frequency of a communication medium. Messages are monitored on the communication medium for corrupted messages. A noise detected signal is generated when a number of corrupted messages detected reaches a corrupted message threshold.
