  • Publication number: 20150247910
Abstract: A system and method are provided for producing a magnetic resonance image of a subject with a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system. The method includes acquiring k-space image data from a subject arranged in an MRI system by performing a pulse sequence. To perform the pulse sequence the MRI system divides k-space into a plurality of radially-extending sectors extending along a radial direction away from an origin of k-space. The plurality of radially-extending sectors include a width transverse to the radial direction that is defined by a vane angle chosen to be greater than a floating point precision of the trigonometric functions that define the radially-extending sectors. The MRI system acquires imaging data from at least the radially-extending sectors to undersample the periphery of k-space by only sampling k-space within the plurality of radial sectors and reconstructs an image of the subject using the imaging data.

  • Publication number: 20150245954
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to methods and apparatuses for sensing distortions in patterns of reflected light to create profiles representing surface topographies of absorbent structures during the manufacture of absorbent articles. Inspection systems may include sensors arranged adjacent an advancing absorbent structure on a converting line. In turn, a controller may monitor and affect various operations on the converting line. The inspection systems herein may also include a radiation source that illuminates a surface of an absorbent structure with a predetermined pattern of light extending in the cross direction CD. The sensor senses distortions in patterns of light reflected from the illuminated surface of the absorbent structure and triangulates changes in elevation of the illuminated surface of the absorbent structure relative to the sensor.

  • Publication number: 20150248805
Abstract: In various embodiments, the present disclosure relates generally to a game including a path of different symbol display positions. The gaming system generates one or more symbols (and/or one or more awards) at one or more of the symbol display positions of a matrix or grid. The gaming system then randomly forms a path including a plurality of the symbol display positions and determines an award for the player based on which symbol display positions are included in the formed path.

  • Publication number: 20150247799
Abstract: The present invention provides methods for determining the presence of immobilized nucleic acid employing unsymmetrical cyanine dyes that are derivatives of thiazole orange, a staining solution and select fluorogenic compounds that are characterized as being essentially non-genotoxic. The methods comprise immobilizing nucleic acid, single or double stranded DNA, RNA or a combination thereof, on a solid or semi solid support, contacting the immobilized nucleic acid with an unsymmetrical cyanine dye compound and then illuminating the immobilized nucleic acid with an appropriate wavelength whereby the presence of the nucleic acid is determined. The cyanine dye compounds are typically present in an aqueous staining solution comprising the dye compound and a tris acetate or tris borate buffer wherein the solution facilitates the contact of the dye compound and the immobilized nucleic acid.

  • Publication number: 20150246096
Abstract: A method for pharmacological treatment of cancer and other diseases is presented which includes the novel combination of a statin (Hmg-CoA reductase inhibitor, such as lovastatin, simvastatin, atorvastatin, cerivastatin, fluvastatin, pravastatin, or newer agents), with an interferon (such as interferon alfa-2b or others) or an angiogenesis inhibitor (a very similar and often overlapping group of drugs which inhibit blood vessel growth and maintenance, such as thalidomide, angiostatin, endostatin, or other agents), and also including concurrent administration of selenium and calcium. The method disclosed in this invention is useful because it can prove more effective than previously known therapies for certain diseases and because its use may be more tolerable, less disfiguring, and less expensive than other methods. The method here disclosed can be readily reproduced by any person skilled in the art of treating disease.
