  • Patent number: 6777240
Abstract: The invention provides a class of samples that model the human body. This family of samples is based upon emulsions of oil in water with lecithin acting as the emulsifier. These solutions that have varying particle sizes may be spiked with basis set components (albumin, urea and glucose) to simulate skin tissues further. The family of samples is such that other organic compounds such as collagen, elastin, globulin and bilirubin may be added, as can salts such as Na+, K+and Cl−. Layers of varying thickness with known index of refraction and particle size distributions may be generated using simple crosslinking reagents, such as collagen (gelatin). The resulting samples are flexible in each analyte's concentration and match the skin layers of the body in terms of the samples reduced scattering and absorption coefficients, &mgr;'s and &mgr;a. This family of samples is provided for use in the medical field where lasers and spectroscopy based analyzers are used in treatment of the body.

  • Patent number: 6777978
Abstract: Structures and methods for selectively applying a well bias to only those portions of a PLD where such a bias is necessary or desirable, e.g., applying a positive well bias to transistors on critical paths within a user's design. A substrate for an integrated circuit includes a plurality of wells, each of which can be independently and programmably biased with the same or a different well bias voltage. In one embodiment, FPGA implementation software automatically determines the critical paths and generates a configuration bitstream that enables positive well biasing only for the transistors participating in the critical paths, or only for programmable logic elements (e.g., CLBs or lookup tables) containing those transistors. In another embodiment, negative well biasing is selectively applied to reduce leakage current.

  • Patent number: 6777847
Abstract: Divided magnet rotors R having a stepped skew rather than a helical skew are described. The stepped skew enables the use of straight magnet sections (44) that can be inserted into the rotor core notches (38) thereby eliminating the need to produce a helix from the rotor cage. The stepped skew is effective in decoupling stator slot order harmonics. In addition, the stepped skew rotor R includes, in some embodiments, open slots (22) so that the rotor is not subject to rotor bridge saturation.

  • Patent number: 6779094
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer program product for performing an instant copy of data. Various instant copy mechanisms are provided for copying data upon receiving a write operation to either original or to copy data. Upon receiving a write operation for writing new data to a first data location, new data is written to a second data location in an additional physical storage area regardless of whether the first data location is in an initial physical storage area or the additional physical storage area. Original data may be separated from copy data by determining a first amount of new data for original data present in the additional physical storage area and a second amount of new data for copy data present in the additional physical storage area. The instant copy mechanisms may be selected based on the type of mapping originally used to store the data to be copied.
