  • Patent number: 6469314
Abstract: An LED and a method of fabricating the LED which utilize controlled oxygen (O) doping to form at least one layer of the LED having an O dopant concentration which is correlated to the dominant emission wavelength of the LED. The O dopant concentration is regulated to be higher when the LED has been configured to have a longer dominant emission wavelength. Since the dominant emission wavelength is dependent on the composition of the active layer(s) of the LED, the O dopant concentration in the layer is related to the composition of the active layer(s). The controlled O doping improves the reliability while minimizing any light output penalty due to the introduction of O dopants. In an exemplary embodiment, the LED is an AlGaInP LED that includes a substrate, an optional distributed Bragg reflector layer, an n-type confining layer, an optional n-type set-back layer, an active region, an optional p-type set-back layer, a p-type confining layer and an optional window layer.

  • Patent number: 6468414
Abstract: A method for purifying a Redox mediator used in a chemical process of oxidation of organic compounds. The desired purification is obtained by recovering the mediator in the form of a solution and heating this solution to evaporate the volatile impurities contained in it and to oxidize the non volatile impurities into compounds which precipitate and are extracted by filtration. The purification takes place before the mediator is regenerated in the electrolysis cell. This prevents the impurities contained in the mediator solution to negatively affect the operation of this cell.

  • Patent number: 6470225
Abstract: A method and apparatus for automatically tuning feedforward parameters is provided, such that feedforward commands can be generated and used in addition to traditional control commands to compensate for known system characteristics. In an exemplary embodiment, feedforward gains are automatically determined after moving an actuator controlled axis, such as a motor imparting motion to a linear slide, through a test motion routine and recording operation data associated with the actuator and axis during the movement. The operation data can include velocity measurements and torque commands. The feedforward gains which are tuned can include a Coulomb friction feedforward gain, a viscous friction feedforward gain, a constant offset feedforward gain, an acceleration feedforward gain, and estimates of velocity loop compensator gains. Capability can also be provided for automatic generation of the test motion routine based upon actuator limit values provided by the user.

  • Publication number: 20020152057
Abstract: Computer-implemented methods, systems and apparatus, including computer program apparatus, provide techniques for designing a set of experiments to be performed with a set of resources. A plurality of experimental configurations are generated based on a set of parameters describing factors to be varied in the experiments and a set of constraints representing limitations on operations that can be performed with the set of resources. A set of experiments is defined based on a selected configuration. The constraints can be represented as patterns defining an application of a parameter to a set of one or more points of an experimental lattice.

  • Publication number: 20020151906
Abstract: Thrombectomy and other treatments are achieved using a catheter having a positioning cage and a macerator within the positioning cage. The catheter is introduced to a target body lumen, typically a blood vessel, and a positioning cage deployed at a treatment site. The macerator is then operated to disrupt thrombus, clot, or other occlusive materials at the treatment site, and the catheter is used to collect and remove the disruptive materials from the body lumen. In particular examples, the macerator may be radially expansible and optionally rotated and/or axially translated within the positioning cage to effect disruption of the occlusive material.

  • Publication number: 20020152190
Abstract: An adaptive resource indexing and lookup method and system for a customer self service system that performs resource search and selection and includes a resource library having selectable resources. The method includes steps of: receiving a current user query for requesting resources; receiving a user context vector associated with the current user query, the user context vector comprising data associating an interaction state with the user; mapping each user query and associated context vector to a sub-set of resources from the resource library; and, generating a response set including the sub-set of resources that are most relevant to the user's query. In an off-line process, an adaptive indexing function is applied for increasing the value of search results for a current user in their context, the adaptive indexing function enhancing the resource indexing functions by increasing their relevance and specificity for mapping user queries to resources.

  • Publication number: 20020149339
Abstract: A plurality of motors for use in driving accessories on a vehicle, are each powered by three-phase current. A single controller controls the supply three-phase current to the plurality of motors. In another aspect of the invention, pseudothree-phase current is created from a direct current voltage source. A chopping circuit chops the voltage into a plurality of pulses, and a phase shift circuit then creates phase-shifted power signals from those pulses. The present invention thus enables the use of three-phase alternating current motors on a vehicle to drive accessories. This reduces the cost and size of the required motors.

  • Publication number: 20020149773
Abstract: An apparatus for inspection of fluids having a fluid analysis cell with a cavity therein enclosed by two light transmitting windows and having a spacer member fixedly positioned therebetween which provides a fluid analysis chamber of fixed pathlength where fluid flows by the windows and preferably wherein the flow laminar and at a uniform shear to provide accurate color measurements. Light transmitting and receiving probes are positioned adjacent to the viewing windows and wherein the faces of each probe are contiguous and flush with the viewing windows but are separated from the flow by the viewing windows, so that transmission measurements can be taken orthogonal to the direction of flow. The apparatus is particularly useful in the manufacture of dispersions and tints used in the manufacture of paints, so that the color of material being made can be accurately matched to a standard color in the wet state with confidence that the color will match in the dry state.

  • Publication number: 20020152361
Abstract: Fine grained control of cache maintenance resulting in improved cache hit rate and processor performance by storing age values and aging rates for respective code lines stored in the cache to direct performance of a least recently used (LRU) strategy for casting out lines of code from the cache which become less likely, over time, of being needed by a processor, thus supporting improved performance of a processor accessing the cache. The invention is implemented by the provision for entry of an arbitrary age value when a corresponding code line is initially stored in or accessed from the cache and control of the frequency or rate at which the age of each code is incremented in response to a limited set of command instructions which may be placed in a program manually or automatically using an optimizing compiler.

  • Publication number: 20020149291
Abstract: In the disclosed embodiment of this invention, sets of straight wire bundles are molded or otherwise encased about a cylindrical rotor casing. The straight wire bundles lie parallel to the axis of the cylindrical rotor casing. This process is an alternative to a traditional type of electric motor armature which uses a wire that is coiled around the cylindrical rotor casing. Since the wire bundles are straight and not pulled from a single wire roll, breaking and stretching of the wire is greatly reduced. The straight wire bundles are connected at their ends using a circuit cap to form a complete electrical circuit.
