  • Publication number: 20020054104
Abstract: The invention designates an object, command or series of commands for anticipatory processing. If the function associated with the designated object, command or series of commands requires resources, the resources are allocated to the function implemented by the anticipated command, if available. While waiting for the user to commit to the designated object, command or series of commands, the system also collects the data necessary to perform the anticipated function. When the user commits to the designated object, command or series of commands, the commands are executed without waiting for the system to acquire the necessary resources.

  • Publication number: 20020053712
Abstract: A process of removing excess conductive material from the exposed surface of a dielectric layer, the process comprising the steps of forming a shield layer on the dielectric layer, forming a sacrificial layer on top of the shield layer, depositing the conductive material on top of the sacrificial layer so that the conductive material is positioned within cavities in the dielectric material, and then using chemical mechanical planarization to remove the excess conductive material and the sacrificial layer. The use of a sacrificial layer interposed between the shield layer and the excess conductive material allows for chemical mechanical planarization to fully remove the sacrificial layer to facilitate more uniform removal of excess conductive material.

  • Publication number: 20020055983
Abstract: Standalone and cluster-based servers, including Web servers, control the amount of data processed concurrently by such servers to thereby control server operating performance. Each server preferably includes a dispatcher for receiving data requests from clients, and at least one back-end server for processing such requests. The dispatcher preferably maintains a persistent connection, or a set of persistent connections, with the back-end server, and forwards the data requests received from clients to the back-end server over the persistent connections. Thus, instead of maintaining a one-to-one mapping of back-end connections to front-end connections as is done in the prior art, the back-end connections can be maintained by the dispatcher and used repeatedly for sending data between the dispatcher and the back-end server. In this manner, back-end connection overhead is markedly reduced.

  • Publication number: 20020055806
Abstract: An injection moulding system optimises the injection moulding process by removing selected articles (100) from a plurality of articles produced cyclically and tests a plurality of physical properties (105) of the removed articles including dimensions (106), weight (108) and gloss (107), together with a plurality of process parameters (109, 110) such as nozzle pressure and nozzle temperature. Adjustment of the process (121) is made automatically on the basis of up to three optimisers (114), including a case based reasoning optimiser (115), a fuzzy optimiser (116) and a rule based reasoning optimiser (117), in order to achieve pre-set article properties. The optimisers (114) can have confidence factors associated therewith, determined on the effect of previous process adjustments.

  • Publication number: 20020055898
Abstract: A method and related system obtains consent from an individual for computer-aided delivery of compliance information. Initially, a computer-readable data storage device is provided to the individual. The device stores the compliance information and computer-executable instructions. By inserting the device into a computer, the instructions are executed and the individual is prompted by the computer to consent to the computer-aided delivery of additional compliance information. Once consent is indicated, it is communicated from the individual's computer to another computer such as a server over, for example, a modem connection. Having secured the individual's consent, the additional compliance information can be delivered to the individual's computer as, for example, a file attachment to an email message.
