  • Patent number: 5676950
Abstract: The subject invention pertains to a novel recombinant vaccinia virus vaccine for use in immunizing animals and humans against disease. The vaccine comprises a live vaccinia or replication deficient mutant vaccinia virus capable of expressing a single or multiple heterologous genes or gene fragments. In a preferred embodiment, the recombinant virus is contained in an orally-administered package that will only dissolve in the host animal's gut. The subject invention also pertains to a method of inducing a broad protective immune response through the oral administration of the recombinant vaccinia virus.

  • Patent number: 5651905
Abstract: Disclosed is a new heating device for an appliance such as a coffee urn. Such device has a main heating element and a spaced-apart warming element, both of which are embedded in a common casting. The device may be mounted to and removed from an appliance as a single unit and when mounted, the main heating element is closer to the liquid container than the warming element. The elements are vertically spaced from one another and each element has flattened coil portions contacting one another. Such flattened portions minimizes the height of the device. The new device also has one or more "mounting points" for attaching auxiliary components such as a grounding wire and a thermostat, as needed.

  • Patent number: 5351830
Abstract: A sealed bag of a pliable multi-layered barrier film substantially impervious to air is partially filled with generally spherically closed cell foam plastic particles deformable under a pressure of less than about 0.2 atmospheres. A bag for use in a typical camera is typically 2 to 3 inches wider and longer than the inside of the case and filled with particles from about 1/16 to 1/4 of an inch in diameter. When flattened uniformly, the bag with the particles inside is about 1/2 an inch in thickness. The bag is placed inside a camera case or the like of smaller dimensions than the bag, e.g. 14.times.6 inches when the pressure in the bag is atmospheric and relieved through an air tube. One or more objects are then depressed into the upper surface of the bag which deforms about them until about a single layer of particles is underneath the object and the particles surround the objects up to about an inch or an inch and a half in depth.
