  • Publication number: 20140276575
Abstract: A patient care system is configured for infusing fluid to a patient. The system includes a plurality of fluid infusion pumps, each of which is connected to a respective fluid supply for pumping the contents of a fluid supply to a patient via fluid supply lines. The system includes a pressure sensor downstream of the fluid infusion pumps for determining if a particular fluid is connected to a designated infusion pump.

  • Publication number: 20140276565
Abstract: The current subject matter describes generation and use of infusion channel identifiers that identify infusion channels transporting medication from an infusion pump to a patient. The infusion pump includes a user interface device, a controller, and at least one infusion device. At a first user interface of the user interface device, data associated with an infusion channel is received. Based on the data, the controller generates an infusion channel identifier identifying the infusion channel. On the first user interface, the infusion channel identifier is displayed. At a second user interface of the user interface device, the infusion channel identifier, a beginning time of a desired provision of the medication to the patient, and a time duration of the desired provision is received. The controller actuates the infusion device and the infusion channel at the beginning time for the time duration. The infusion device delivers, via the infusion channel, the medication to the patient.

  • Publication number: 20140276548
Abstract: The subject matter described herein relates to controlling and automating a delivery of one or boluses of a fluid medication to a patient. A user interface can display lists of parameters, such as a list of types of fluid in the fluid medication, a list of modes for delivery of the one or more boluses, a list of flow rates of each bolus delivery, a list of durations corresponding to each bolus, a list of initiation times of each bolus, and a list of initiation events for each bolus. In response, a clinician can select and/or specify parameters for the one or more boluses. Subsequently, the infusion device can deliver the one or more boluses based on the selected or specified parameters. Related apparatus, systems, techniques and articles are also described.

  • Patent number: 7871394
Abstract: In a patient controlled analgesia (PCA) system, physiological data is processed and alarms are provided by the controller of the physiological module sensing the data according to a first rule. The physiological data is also processed by a second, separate controller according to a second rule independent from the first controller. According to the second rule, the physiological data may be filtered, processed with physiological data and non-physiological data obtained from another source, such as a remote server, and the PCA delivery device controlled to prevent delivery of medication accordingly. The provided system of multiple processors and rules enables normal alarming by physiological sensor modules while the pausing or prevention of the PCA delivery is controlled by a separate controller. Through this means, not only are false pauses and alarms for PCA delivery reduced, but the normal alarms of the monitors are permitted to function normally.

  • Publication number: 20060064053
Abstract: An infusion system comprises a first pump device that delivers a first infusate, preferably a medication, to an IV infusion line and a second pump device that delivers a second infusate, preferably a neutral carrying solution, to the IV line. The infusion system also includes a measurement device that determines an amount of undelivered first infusate remaining in a receptacle. Furthermore, the infusion system includes a control system that communicates with the first and second delivery devices and the measurement device to determine an optimum first infusate infusion flow rate based on the determined amount of undelivered first infusate remaining in the system, a predetermined volume of fluid to be infused, and a predetermined infusion time period, and for controlling the first delivery unit accordingly. The present invention also provides methods for infusing a medication into a patient.

  • Publication number: 20050177096
Abstract: A patient care system in which a physiological parameter of a patient is monitored while the patient self-administers analgesic. A display presents a trend of the patient's physiological parameter along with the time of self-administration of the analgesic (“PCA”—patient controlled analgesic) such that the effect of the analgesic on the physiological parameter can be seen over selectable time periods. The physiological parameter may be ETCO2 or SpO2 or other. Also included is a drug library having acceptable pumping parameters as well as other PCA specific data. Should the operator program a pumping parameter that is outside an acceptable range, or should the patient attempt to self-administer more analgesic than the acceptable range permits, or should a patient's physiological parameter change during infusion such that a pumping parameter becomes outside an acceptable range, an indication of such will be given and action, such as stopping the pump, will be taken.
