Patent number: 7166714Abstract: Described is a novel family of cell surface serpentine transmembrane antigens. Two of the proteins in this family are exclusively or predominantly expressed in the prostate, as well as in prostate cancer, and thus members of this family have been termed “STEAP” (Six Transmembrane Epithelial Antigens of the Prostate). Four particular human STEAPs are described and characterized herein. The human STEAPs exhibit a high degree of structural conservation among them but show no significant structural homology to any known human proteins. The prototype member of the STEAP family, STEAP-1, appears to be a type IIIa membrane protein expressed predominantly in prostate cells in normal human tissues. Structurally, STEAP-1 is a 339 amino acid protein characterized by a molecular topology of six transmembrane domains and intracellular N- and C-termini, suggesting that it folds in a “serpentine” manner into three extracellular and two intracellular loops.Type: GrantFiled: December 31, 2003Date of Patent: January 23, 2007Assignee: Agensys, Inc.Inventors: Daniel E. Patent number: 6763948Abstract: A screening machine of the type used to separate or classify mixtures of solid particles of different sizes includes a fixed base and a perforate screen deck mounted for movement relative to the base during a screening operation. Leaf springs connect the tail end of the screen deck to the fixed base so that the leaf springs support the tail end of screen deck for movement relative to the base. The leaf springs are oriented horizontally to avoid introducing vertical movement to the screen deck as it moves to and from the head and tail ends. The leaf springs are offset or deflected when the machine is at rest or in the neutral mid-point of its stroke. This arrangement advantageously utilizes the bias of the leaf springs to accelerate, assist or enhance movement of the screen deck during portions of its stroke and likewise to decelerate, hinder or retard the movement during other portions of its stroke. With an appropriate offset, an increase in the effectiveness of the screening process (i.e.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 2002Date of Patent: July 20, 2004Assignee: Rotex, Inc.Inventors: Brady P. Patent number: 5887726Abstract: A coupling for directing a stream of particles falling from a feed spout through an opening on the top cover of the screen box of a screening machine. An upper diaphragm seals the feed spout within the mouth of a funnel. A lower diaphragm seals the funnel discharge opening within the top cover opening. Both diaphragms are flexible and permit the funnel to tilt axially and accommodate movement of the top cover opening with respect to the feed spout. Optionally, a gimble may support the funnel and diaphragms and thereby relieve the diaphragms from the weight of the coupling.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 1996Date of Patent: March 30, 1999Assignee: Rotex, Inc.Inventor: Stephen C. Patent number: 5771680Abstract: A stiffened composite is provided exhibiting multi-directional reinforcement with continuous long fibers. The composite has a substrate and serpentine stiffeners adhered thereto. The stiffeners merge toward, join with and diverge from adjacent stiffeners to provide a stiffener matrix on the substrate. The serpentine stiffener permit the matrix to exhibit multi-directional reinforcement with the continuous long fibers within the serpentine ribs. The composite structures are useful as aircraft bypass ducts, and as other composite products.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 1995Date of Patent: June 30, 1998Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventors: Ahmad P. Patent number: 5730297Abstract: A screening machine of the moving base type has an oscillating force reducer and a single counterbalance drive, with the weight of the drive counterbalance sized to underbalance the longitudinal reaction force exerted by the deck on the drive shaft, but to substantially overbalance the lateral reaction force exerted by the deck on the drive shaft. The weight of the force reducer, the spring constant of the spring which oscillates the force reducer, and overall cost are surprisingly reduced.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 1995Date of Patent: March 24, 1998Assignee: Rotex, Inc.Inventors: William E. Lower, Stephen C. Mitchell

Patent number: 5301814Abstract: The screening efficiency of a gyratory screening machine, of the type having a moving base, is significantly increased by mounting to the base a spring/mass system which is tuned so that operation of the machine drive produces amplified movement of the mass along at least one of two perpendicular axes on which the base moves. Movement of the mass reduces the net force on the base along the axis on which the mass oscillates. The reaction force of the machine drive on the base along the other of the two perpendicular axes may be offset by a rotary counterbalance operated by the drive. Movement of the base relative to the ground is thereby reduced, and movement of the screen deck relative to ground is increased. This both increases the effectiveness of the screening motion and decreases the total reaction force transmitted through the base.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1992Date of Patent: April 12, 1994Assignee: Rotex, Inc.Inventors: William E. Lower, Stephen C. Mitchell

Patent number: 5074012Abstract: A self-locking clamp has a handle which locks to a non-rotating member if the handle starts to turn while in clamping use. The clamp has a retractable collar which is splined to the handle and is biased toward locking engagement with a sleeve that in turn seats against the member to be clamped. The collar can be held retracted from the sleeve for tightening and loosening the clamp.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 1991Date of Patent: December 24, 1991Assignee: Rotex, Inc.Inventor: Stephen C. Patent number: 5069778Abstract: A screen deck having spaced, canted parallel slats which present screening slots between them, wherein the slats are mounted on pedestals that are positioned and aligned by parallel rods which extend transversely through the pedestals. The pedestals are spaced apart by spacers between them, the spacers being held in place by the rods. Slat mounting is facilitated and slot width uniformity is improved by use of the pedestals.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 1990Date of Patent: December 3, 1991Assignee: Rotex, Inc.Inventors: William E. Patent number: 4802591Abstract: A machine and method for separating chip-like particles according to thickness which provides low blinding and high efficiency at high throughput in sustained operation. The machine has a sloping deck mounting a series of spaced flexible louvers or slats which extend parallel to the direction of chip flow down the deck. The slats are canted transversely to the direction of flow, and present unobstructed full length slot-like chip openings between them. The deck is driven with a horizontal gyratory motion such that during the upstream half of each cycle of movement, each slot moves toward chips on the adjacent slat which slopes toward it, and moves away from such chips during the downstream half of the cycle. The path of screening movement is uniform over the entire deck, that is, the motion of the lower or discharge end of the deck matches that of the upper or feed end.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 1988Date of Patent: February 7, 1989Assignee: Rotex, Inc.Inventors: William E. Lower, W. Nash McCauley, Stephen C. Mitchell, Roger C. Robins, Steven A. Schmidt

Patent number: 4234416Abstract: In a multiple deck screening machine, the feed material is divided into separate equal fractions as it falls into parallel vertical channels. Each channel serves a particular screen deck via a chute which diverts the respective fraction from the channel onto the screen. The lower chutes include widened portions that extend laterally from their respective channels into areas which are masked or closed above by overlying upper chutes, in order to provide flow areas onto the respective screens which are wider than the channels that feed them, and thereby provide better flow distribution onto the screens.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 1979Date of Patent: November 18, 1980Assignee: Rotex, Inc.Inventors: William E. Lower, Stephen C. Mitchell, Jeremy F. Simpson
