    Abstract: A laser barrier material for preventing far-wall strike during a laser drilling operation comprising a finely divided crystalline material, preferably a metal salt which is thermally stable and possesses a high melting point such as sodium chloride. The barrier material may be introduced into the interior of a component by pouring through an aperture or by making it into a paste with water and injecting it. The material is then subsequently removed by washing the component with water.
