  • Patent number: 4262142
Abstract: In a rhodium-catalyzed hydroformylation process employing olefin reactants having from 3 to 20 carbon atoms to produce products rich in normal aldehydes, the efficiency of the catalyst in producing such products is substantially uneffected and propionaldehyde is also produced by employing ethylene as a coreactant along with the olefin.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 28, 1979
Date of Patent: April 14, 1981
    Assignee: Union Carbide Corporation
Inventors: Paul D. Sherman, Jr., Stephen C. Winans, Dennis G. Morrell
  • Patent number: 4225530
Abstract: This invention relates to the continuous production of alkane polyols by the reaction of hydrogen and CO in a homogeneous liquid phase mixture containing a rhodium carbonyl complex catalyst, the mole ratio of H.sub.2 /CO in the reactant gas being above about 0.1, wherein the improvement comprises periodically lowering the H.sub.2 /CO mole ratio in the reactant gas to about 0.1 or less and thereafter increasing the H.sub.2 /CO mole ratio to about its former value.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 11, 1978
Date of Patent: September 30, 1980
    Assignee: Union Carbide Corporation
Inventors: Robert W. Beisner, Stephen C. Winans
  • Patent number: 4224235
Abstract: This invention relates to the continuous production of alkane polyols by the reaction of hydrogen and oxides of carbon in a homogeneous liquid phase mixture containing a rhodium carbonyl complex catalyst wherein the improvement comprises periodically lowering the temperature of the liquid phase mixture and thereafter raising it to about its former value.
