  • Patent number: 7641557
Abstract: A flexible coupling capable of transmitting moments and comprising a first member having a longitudinal axis (30) connected by at least three joints (27) to a second member (41) having a longitudinal axis substantially aligned with the longitudinal axis of the first member, the joints being circumferentially spaced apart about said axis, each joint comprising a first part (27) on one of the members and a second part (31) on the other member, the parts of each joint interfitting so that moments can be transmitted between said members by the joints and so that relative sliding and rotational movement can take place between the parts of teach joint, the joint parts on at least one of the members being flexibly arranged (41) so that the members may articulate relative to one another.

  • Patent number: 6776720
Abstract: A plunging, constant-velocity, tripode universal joint comprising a first rotary member (30) having three trunnions (31), a roller (34) having a cylindrical bore mounted on a spherical surface (32) on each trunnion so that the cylindrical bore engages the spherical surface and so that each roller can rotate, tilt and slide relative to its supporting trunnion, a second rotary member (40) having three grooves parallel to its rotary axis, each roller being engaged with one of the grooves, the engagement between each roller and track surfaces in its associated groove being at three points such that the orientation of the roller with respect to the second member is determined solely by said engagement and wherein when the joint is transmitting torque each roller (34) is only in contact with the track surface(s) (42, 43) through which the torque is being transmitted.

  • Patent number: 6248035
Abstract: A rotary device comprising two elements (12, 20/22) supported for rotation about an axis (11) and movable relative to one another along said axis, and diaphragm spring means (33) urging said elements axially relative to one another, said diaphragm spring means having radially inner and outer portions connected respectively to said elements and arranged such that said elements are constrained to movement in opposite directions by the same or substantially the same distance as one another about an axially fixed position.

  • Patent number: 6033311
Abstract: A constant velocity ratio universal joint of the tripode type including a first joint member having a first rotational axis and three tracks circumferentially spaced about the axis and extending lengthwise thereof. A second joint member is also included having a second rotational axis and three arms extending into the respective tracks of the first joint member. Each of the arms has a respective arm axis, and a roller is carried by each arm. Each roller has a roller axis and an external circumferential surface which engages opposite sides of the respective track in the first joint member. The external circumferential surface of each roller is a surface of revolution about the roller axis of a convex generally arcuate line having a meridian radius. The roller is characterized in that the meridian radius is greater than the equatorial radius.

  • Patent number: 5733197
Abstract: A universal joint comprising a first joint member having a rotational axis and a body connected to the first joint member for pivotal movement relative thereto about a pivot axis intersecting and perpendicular to the rotational axis. The body comprises two trunnions extending along a trunnion axis perpendicular to the pivot axis of the body and respective rollers are carried by the trunnions for rotation about the trunnion axis. The universal joint also comprises a second joint member having a rotational axis and affording two tracks extending lengthwise of the second joint member and diametrically opposed to one another about the rotational axis of the second joint member with the rollers being received in the tracks for torque transmission between the joint members by way of the body and rollers.

  • Patent number: 5645487
Abstract: A constant velocity ratio universal joint of the tripode type includes an outer joint member with three tracks extending lengthwise of the joint member, and an inner joint member having three arms extending outwardly into the tracks of the outer joint member. Each arm carries a respective roller having an external surface which engages opposed side portions of the associated track. Each roller is able to tilt within its associated track and move therealong so that the inner and outer joint members are able to move axially relative to one another and undergo relative articulation.
