Abstract: A device for performing transanal irrigation includes an elongated neck having a proximal end and a flushing liquid channel passing therethrough. In a system including the device, the flushing liquid channel communicates with a source of flushing liquid. An insert is positioned on the proximal end of the neck of the device and is inserted into a body cavity of a user. The insert has a flushing liquid opening that is in fluid communication with the flushing liquid channel of the neck. A control housing is connected to the neck of the device and contains a pump. Pressurized flushing liquid flows through the device channel and exits through the flushing liquid opening of the insert when the pump is activated. A pair of support arms are attached to the device neck and rest on a sitting user's legs with the insert positioned below a body cavity of the user.

Abstract: A catheter package includes an elongated case (210). A cap (218) is attached to the case by a flexible strap (214). The case receives the tubing portion of a catheter. The catheter has a funnel (224) attached to the tubing. The funnel has a seal portion releasably engageable with the case. The cap is releasably engageable with the funnel to retain the funnel in contact with the case. A user can flip the cap off the funnel to permit removal of the catheter from the case. A hydration device may be inserted in the case. Alternately, a tubular liner may be inserted in the case to separate liquid water on the outside of the liner from the catheter tubing on the inside of the liner. A window in the liner mounts a patch of filter material that permits the passage of water vapor into the interior of the liner.

Abstract: A package for a medical device such as an intermittent catheter has a case which is closed at one end and open at the other end. A cap is connected to the case by a hinge to permit selectable movement of the cap between an open position, wherein access is provided to the open end of the case, and a closed position, wherein the cap prevents access to the open end of the case. A seal is connected to one of the cap and case. The seal is engageable with the other of the cap and case when the cap is closed to form a barrier that maintains a sterile environment inside the package. The seal can be repeatedly made and broken whenever the user closes or opens the cap, respectively. The case includes a pair of slots at the open end. A pair of latches are formed in the cap. The latches fit into the slots to prevent lateral forces from distorting the cap when the cap is closed.

A shoulder is formed near one end of the case. Above the shoulder is a cylindrical ferrule that includes external threads. A guide member arm may be provided for manipulating the irrigation head for both insertion and removal. The irrigation head is reliably attached to the guide member arm. The guide member arm may include an integral manual pump.

The catheter may include an inflationless cuff made of a flexible material that permits it to be inserted in the rectum to prevent leakage around the exterior of the catheter.
