    Abstract: Manufacture of 1-(quinazolin-4-yl)indol-3-ylacetic acids and salts thereof by reacting a phenylhydrazone derivative with a quinazoline derivative, for example a halogenoquinazoline, and then ring-closing the resulting intermediate product. An illustrative product of the process of the invention is 1-(7-chloroquinazolin-4-yl)-5-methoxy-2-methylindol-3-ylacetic acid.

An illustrative compound of the invention is 1-(7-chloroquinazolin-4-yl)-5-methoxy-2-methylindol-3-ylacetic acid. The compounds have anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic activity. This application is a continuation-in-part of Ser. No. 296,202, filed Oct. 10, 1972, now U.S. Pat. No. 3,884,919.
