  • Patent number: 9328750
Abstract: A strap clamp arranged to securely cinch a strap around a target object is described. The strap clamp includes a bar and a clutch assembly slideably mounted on the bar. A strap is carried by the clutch assembly and a strap fastener is attached to the bar. The strap fastener is arranged to releasably engage the strap. When the strap fastener is engaged, the strap is held fixed relative to the bar thereby forming a loop between the fastener and the clutch assembly. When the strap fastener is released, the strap may be pulled through the fastener to adjust the length of the loop. The clutch assembly may include a clutch mechanism, an actuator and a clutch release. The clutch mechanism prevents the clutch assembly from moving away from the strap fastener when engaged. The actuator is arranged to move the clutch assembly towards the strap fastener when actuated.

  • Patent number: 6230428
Abstract: A frame connector for quickly and easily attaching two picture frames together in a stable manner has a support arm and a coupling member on each end. A coupling member may be a slider, snap, wedge or spring. A slider frame support attaches easily to either metal or wood frames. A coupling member for a slider frame support may be a flat piece for screwing or nailing to a wood frame, or may be slid into the channel of a metal frame. Holes, slots or spikes for attaching to a wood frame may be incorporated into any of the coupling members. A slider frame support includes a screw hole for a screw that secures the slider support to a channel of a metal frame. A snap frame support attaches to a channel of a frame by fingers that snap into the channel. A wedge frame support secures itself in a channel of a frame by wedging itself within the channel. A spring frame support secures itself in the channel of a frame by spring-like fingers that press against the channel walls.

  • Patent number: 5832646
Abstract: A picture frame support system is disclosed. In one aspect of the invention, a variety of free standing support arrangements are provided that cooperate with a support rail on the picture frame. The support rail defines a channel with a constricted opening. The support arrangement includes a coupling mechanism sized appropriately to fit within the frame support rail channel. An elongated support arm extends transversely from the coupling mechanism to support the frame. In one embodiment, a cam based coupling mechanism is described. In another, a slider based coupling mechanism that utilizes a pair of threaded studs to engage the support rail channel. In another aspect of the invention, an independent frame support rail channel is disclosed that may be adhered to a mount board or the like to facilitate hanging and/or supports such as the free standing supports described above.

  • Patent number: 5537904
Abstract: A reversible mat cutter for cutting openings in oversized picture frame mats is disclosed. In one aspect of the invention, the guide rod and mat bar are easily detachable from the clamping frame of the mat cutter. Once detached, the cutter head assembly is then easily removed, reversed and remounted on the guide rod such that the cutter head then cuts on the opposite side of the guide rod. Both the mat guide and squaring arm are both quickly and easily detached from one side of the guide bar and remountable on the other side so that then an oversized picture mat may then be lain flat on the mat cutter and cut with the reversed cutter head.

  • Patent number: 5509765
Abstract: A removable hollow-wall anchor for fastening machine screws to a wall is disclosed. Commonly called a Molly bolt, in one aspect of the invention the head of the Molly bolt is unthreadable from the anchor part of the Molly bolt so that once the Molly bolt has been secured to the wall the head can be unthreaded so as to remove it from the outer surface of the wall. A gripper is used in conjunction with the head to prevent rotation of the Molly bolt when the machine screw is being threaded in or out. The gripper is also removable from the wall. Once the machine screw, head and gripper have been removed from the wall, the outer surface of the wall is flush and free from any part of the Molly bolt.

  • Patent number: 5459937
Abstract: A mat board cutting guide for use in cutting mat board for flamed pictures, for example, is disclosed. The cutting guide includes an elongated straight edge having a top and a bottom surface, a first and a second end, and a first and a second edge. The first and the second edge are parallel to each other and extending along the entire length of the straight edge. The cutting guide also includes a squaring head having a thickness substantially equal to the thickness of a standard single mat board, approximately 1/16 of an inch. The squaring edge is attached to the bottom surface of the straight edge at the first end of the straight edge. The squaring head includes a squaring edge adapted to engage a first edge of a piece of mat board when the bottom surface of the straight edge is placed on the piece of mat board. The squaring head is attached to the straight edge such that the squaring edge of the squaring head is perpendicular to the first and second edge of the straight edge.

  • Patent number: 5367803
Abstract: A metal or wooden picture frame is provided with a traverse brace which comprises a channel having inward turned flange edges. A T-shaped fitting has means for attachment to the frame and a leg which is narrower than the space between the channel flanges but wider than the space between the inturned edges. A lock screw threaded through a tapped hole in the leg is tightened against the channel web, forcing the leg against the inner surfaces of the inturned edges and thus locking the brace to the frame. In one form of the invention the opposite end of the brace is locked to the opposite side of the frame by a similar fitting. Alternatively, a strap may be tightened to opposed brace sections. In a modification, an eye engageable with a picture hook may be locked to the brace. In another modification, an arm may be locked to the channel to extend laterally to receive a screw having a knob bearing against the back of a print, etc, within the frame to prevent sagging.

  • Patent number: 5096170
Abstract: A picture framer's tool of the type used to drive brads into picture frames shown in U.S. Pat. No. 4,763,825 is modified so that it may also be used as a clamp. The tool has two jaws, namely an inner adjustably positioned along a sleeve and a second jaw on the outer end of a rod reciprocable within the sleeve and extending beyond the outer end of said sleeve. The tool has a lever pivoted on a handle which causes the rod to reciprocate. One improvement is the provision of a wing screw or other fastener on the handle which engages the rod so that it is fixed in position. Another improvement is the provision of attachments for each jaw, one of which may be spring-loaded. Attachments include hammer heads, points, swivels and the like.

  • Patent number: 5015129
Abstract: Commercially available battery-powered screwdriver output shafts are round and have hexagonal bores to receive the hexagonal shanks of screwdriver blades. An adapter has one end shaped to receive and engage such an output shaft. The opposite end is externally threaded to receive an internally threaded chuck which holds round shank twist drills. Thus, a power screwdriver may be used as a drill. An optional second adapter having one end shaped hexagonal to receive the screwdriver output shaft and be held in place by a set screw and has its opposite end shaped to be permanently attached to the first-mentioned adapter. This facilitates attaching and detaching the chuck.

  • Patent number: 4763825
Abstract: A framing tool is disclosed for applying fasteners to the interior perimeter of a frame to mount a picture or the like. The framing tool includes a conventional fastener applying instrument that includes a driving means for propelling a fastener into the frame and a storage means for storing a plurality of fasteners and delivering the fasteners to the actuator means. An actuator assembly is provided for both positioning and triggering the fastener applying instrument. The actuator assembly includes a rod that communicates with the driving means and is slideably coupled to a sleeve. A backing plate is selectively secured to the sleeve by a clamping arrangement to engage the exterior perimeter of the frame and position the driving means. A trigger is provided that moves the rod relative to the sleeve in order to actuate the driving means.
