    Abstract: An optical fiber connector assembly includes a body (22) with passages (26) that hold optical fibers and a backshell (24) that can be removed and slid along the optical fiber cable to provide access to the fibers so a selected fiber can be removed while the rest of the fibers continue to carry signals. The removable backshell carries a mechanism (150) that can be manually operated to unlatch the connector from a housing (12), despite removeability of the backshell. The mechanism includes a cam (152) rotatable about the cable-receiving aperture (32) in the backshell and a cam follower (142) that is pushed forwardly by rotation of the cam. The cam follower presses forwardly against a pair of release elements (130) in the body to cause them to deflect a pair of latch arms (120) out of engagement with shoulders (124) of the body so the body can be pulled rearwardly out of the housing.

    Abstract: An optical fiber connector system includes first and second mateable connectors (12, 14) with fiber blocks (32,72) that hold optical fiber termini (50), wherein forward (F) movement of the second connector housing (70) toward the first housing (30) results in automatic latching together of the fiber blocks with the latches taking the forces of termini springs that have been partially compressed. The second fiber block (72) can slide within the second housing (70) between front and rear positions, and is held in the front position by a cam (90) that engages a free end (104) of a cam follower arm (103) of the second housing. As the connectors mate, a rigid second fiber block latch (100) deflects a resilient first housing latch end (62) and rides forward of it until faces of the blocks are close together.

    Abstract: A boot assembly (40) for an antenna (30) includes an elongate sleeve (42) and an end cap (60), the sleeve (42) having an opening defining an annular recess (44) dimensioned to receive the end cap (60) and be secured thereto in an adhesive joint. One of either the inner surface (46) of the annular recess (44) or the outer surface (62) of the end cap (60) has axially extending ridges (48) and the other of the inner and outer surfaces (46, 62) has corresponding axially extending recesses (64) dimensioned to receive the ridges (48) therein. The inner and outer surfaces (46, 62) provide a large adhered surface area and multiple shear planes that distribute stress upon impact and minimizing propagation of cracks in the adhesive joint thereby maintaining the integrity of the sleeve (42) and end cap (60).

The planar conductor (22) is made by stamping an array of slots (30) in a continuous sheet of metal with ends of adjacent slots (30) being offset from each other in an alternating pattern of long and short slot portions (32, 36) on each side of a centerline of the array; at least filling each slot (30) with a dielectric material (50), thereby defining a slot filled strip; and cutting along each side of the slot-filled strip intersecting each filled long slot portion (32) at a sufficient distance from the ends of adjacent ones of the filled short slot portions (36) to define a strap (42) of metal connecting the metal strips on each side of each slot (30).
