  • Patent number: 11873710
Abstract: The accuracy of directional surveys may be improved using accelerometers, magnetometers, or both. A control system containing accelerometers is configured specifically to correct errors in bias and gain of each accelerometer by requiring the measured field strengths to be as constant as possible over several tool face angles over multiple points in a wellbore, even when all measurements are within a tangent or lateral section of a wellbore. Corrections for the bias and gain errors determined based on one or more measurements from the accelerometers are applied to measurements at other survey points to improve the accuracy of surveys and the efficiency of drilling operations.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: January 16, 2024
    Assignee: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.

  • Patent number: 10329851
Abstract: A sub, downhole tool, and method for manufacturing thereof, are disclosed. The sub may include one or more flow channels, each of which may be defined in part by a longitudinal groove formed along an exterior of a collar. One or more flow channel cover may be connected to the collar. The longitudinal grooves position the flow channels further outward to provide more volume within the collar that may be used for housing one or more devices. Upper and lower blind bores are fluidly coupled to the longitudinal grooves by angled through bores to complete the flow channels. A medial bore, which may be fluidly isolated from the flow channels, may be provided to house a device, such as an instrument, detector, or circuitry.

  • Patent number: 9388635
Abstract: In an apparatus of the type comprising a first assembly, a second assembly, an orientable rotatable connection between the first assembly and the second assembly, and a control device associated with the orientable rotatable connection, a method for controlling the actuation of the control device. Particular embodiments of the method include comparing an actual orientation of the second assembly with a target orientation, actuating the control device to perform a control device actuation cycle if the actual orientation is not acceptable, determining an updated actual orientation of the second assembly, comparing the updated actual orientation with the target orientation, and repeating the control device actuation cycle if the updated target orientation is not acceptable. A first exemplary embodiment of the method represents a target approach to achieving the target orientation. A second exemplary embodiment of the method represents an incremental approach to achieving the target orientation.
