  • Publication number: 20080161266
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an ophthalmic composition comprising alginate having a minimum of about 0% and a maximum of about 50% guluronic units bound to an adjacent guluronic unit as a percentage of the total number of monomeric units in the alginate. The composition further includes a cationic antimicrobial agent. The alginate set forth above forms less deactivating complexes with cationic antimicrobial agent, and thus, the composition has improved preservative efficacy.

  • Patent number: 6323165
Abstract: The invention is directed to compositions and methods used as in-the-eye and/or out-of-eye inhibitors of proteinaceous deposits on hydrophilic contact lenses. Compositions of the present invention comprise moderately charged polyquaternium polymers that selectively bind to hydrophilic contact lenses to block the binding of proteinaceous materials. Compositions of the present invention may be used in multipurpose cleaning solutions for contact lenses and can eliminate the need for special enzyme cleaners and the like for removing proteinaceous materials.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: November 27, 2001
    Assignee: Bausch & Lomb Incorporated
Inventors: David J. Heiler, Stephen E. Maier, Susan P. Spooner
  • Patent number: 6153568
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an ophthalmically safe disinfecting solution for contact lenses comprising the combination of a polymeric biguanide and a polyquaternium polymer of a substituted or unsubstituted vinylimidazole or its vinylimidazoliuum salt, which copolymer has a weight average molecular weight of 5,000 to 5,000,000. The invention is also directed to an improved method of disinfecting a contact lens.
