    Abstract: The light output intensity of incandescent lamps and LEDs connected to a common lamp power bus are controlled using a composite waveform having two power components: a pulse-width modulated (PWM) component and a direct current DC component. The DC component is maintained below the turn-on voltage for the LEDs. The PWM component controls the light intensity of the LEDs; and the DC component is calculated as a quadrature power series, taking into account that the PWM component contributes to the light intensity of the incandescent lamps. The frequency and slew rate of the PWM component are selected to minimize EMI. A small steady state power component is provided to keep the LEDs slightly turned on to minimize EMI.

The dynamic change in respiratory sinus arrhythmia and resultant arterial pressure wave is visually presented in real time as user biofeedback. A respiratory sinus arrhythmia generator generates varying frequencies to which the user synchronizes their breathing cycle for purposes of increasing arterial pressure wave amplitude with a consequent increase in breathing depth and decrease in breathing frequency. An instructive method in the application of the present invention is also specified.

    Abstract: The invention provides a method and system for bringing an exercising human subject to the state of optimal psycho-physical functioning, in effect the “runner's high”, by facilitating the state of heart rate variability coherence while the subject is exercising. This is achieved by synchronization of the varying breathing cycle with the varying heart rate variability cycle. This is accomplished by providing a biofeedback signal to the exercising subject indicating when to begin inhalation and when to begin exhalation. A plurality of sensors are arranged in the cavity on the interior wall, or on the exterior wall to provide indications of acoustic disturbances. A control system uses the indications from the sensors to generate control signals for the actuators. In one arrangement the sensors are arranged in an array interspersed between the actuators which are also arranged in an array. A drive signal for each actuator is then generated using the signals from sensors adjacent to the actuators.
