    Abstract: An openable gem setting for a jewelry article in which a gemstone is removably retained by a removable holding plate, the plate being removably fastened to the jewelry article by means of a plurality of fasteners. The holding plate includes at least one major aperture adapted for the mounting of a gemstone, and at least two minor apertures through which portions of the fasteners extend and removably engage a part of the jewelry article.
