Patent number: 11882916Abstract: A refillable cosmetic dispenser with a cartridge for a stick cosmetic that can be locked in a retracted position except when engaged with a corresponding dispenser base. Locking formations retained by an elongate body and an elevator cup have a locked condition to lock the elevator cup against movement relative to the elongate body. The dispenser base receives the elongate body, and a release member of the dispenser base actuates the locking formations from the locked condition to the unlocked condition. The locking formations retained by the elongate body can be plural resiliently deflectable fingers disposed along a circular shape, and the release member can be a central column that is operative to deflect the resiliently deflectable fingers out of engagement with the locking formation of the elevator cup. The elevator cup can thus be locked in a retracted position to be freed by a corresponding dispenser base.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 2020Date of Patent: January 30, 2024Assignee: HCP Packaging USA, Inc.Inventors: David P. Dunton, Stephen G. Dudienski

Patent number: 11395535Abstract: A keyed refillable cosmetic dispenser for a stick cosmetic. The cosmetic dispenser has a cosmetic insert cartridge and a dispenser base with a matching key pattern combination. The insert cartridge has an inner body with a key pattern, an elevator cup, and a rotary extension and retraction mechanism for the elevator cup and a retained cosmetic. The key pattern of the insert cartridge can be a keyway in a keyway member of the inner body, and the key pattern of the dispenser base can be formed on a central column that forms a key member. The key patterns can be patterns of surface deviations, such as ridges and channels, that intermesh when the cosmetic insert cartridge is received by the dispenser base to produce a rotary driving engagement therebetween. A line of keyed cosmetic dispensers can be established by plural cosmetic dispensers with different key pattern combinations.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 2020Date of Patent: July 26, 2022Assignee: HCP Packaging USA, Inc.Inventors: David P. Dunton, Stephen G. Dudienski

Patent number: 11006731Abstract: A refillable cosmetic compact with a product base insert repositionable in relation to a base structure between an engaged configuration and a disengaged configuration. An actuation opening through the base structure permits a pressing of a release button of the product base insert to induce the product base insert from the engaged to the disengaged configuration. Resiliently deflectable catch members project longitudinally from either or both of the base structure and the product base insert. Converging deflection surfaces engage the catch members as the product base insert is repositioned from the disengaged configuration to the engaged configuration to deflect the catch members laterally inwardly to retain a cosmetic pan and to permit a deflection of the catch members laterally outwardly as the product base insert is repositioned from the engaged configuration to the disengaged configuration to release or receive a cosmetic pan.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 2019Date of Patent: May 18, 2021Assignee: HCP Packaging USA, Inc.Inventors: David P. Dunton, Stephen G. Dudienski

Publication number: 20130276817Abstract: A cosmetic applicator with a paddle-shaped applicator tip for retaining and applying a volume of cosmetic material. The applicator tip has a paddle-shaped head portion with first and second opposed, egg-shaped oval faces separated by a thickness of the head portion. The head portion of the applicator tip is retained by a neck portion that is retained by a base rod. An applicator wand, which can have a cap fixed thereto, retains the base rod and the applicator tip in general. The head and neck portions of the applicator tip can be enveloped in applicator material, such as bristles or fibers applied by flocking, for retaining and applying cosmetic material. A cosmetic bottle with a flexible wiper can selectively receive the applicator tip for wiping excess cosmetic material from the applicator tip.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 24, 2013Publication date: October 24, 2013Inventors: Thomas F. Holloway, Stephen G. Dudienski

Publication number: 20120224910Abstract: A cosmetic applicator with a column core applicator tip for retaining and applying a volume of cosmetic material. The column core applicator tip can have a column shape with a substantially continuous, cylindrical outer surface, and cosmetic applicator material, which can comprise flocked bristles, is applied to envelop the column core applicator tip. A cosmetic product reception indentation, which could comprise a supplemental product tube with a body portion within the applicator tip or a distal end cup, is disposed in an end face of the column core applicator tip, and that end face can be disposed at a miter angle. The supplemental product tube can have a length of at least one-half of the length of the body portion of the column core applicator tip.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 7, 2011Publication date: September 6, 2012Applicant: HCP PACKAGING USA, INC.Inventors: Thomas F. Holloway, Stephen G. Dudienski, Raymond P. Legassie

Patent number: 8231297Abstract: A cosmetic dispenser with a bottle and an applicator wand retained for slidable extension and retraction relative to the bottle. The applicator wand can be slid from a retracted position wherein a cosmetic applicator is retained within the bottle and an extended position wherein the cosmetic applicator projects through an aperture at a distal end of the bottle. A lateral dividing structure, which can be formed by an adapter insert and a rear seal, slidably receives the applicator wand and divides the inner volume of the bottle into a distal inner volume and a proximal inner volume. A laterally disposed distal wiping wiper with a plurality of radial slits can wipe a distal end of the cosmetic applicator, and a side wiping wiper with an inner throat can wipe a peripheral portion of the cosmetic applicator. A cap with a plug can matingly engage the side wiping wiper.Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 2009Date of Patent: July 31, 2012Inventors: Raymond P. Legassie, Thomas F. Holloway, Frederick J. Dobbins, Stephen G. Dudienski

Patent number: 8151807Abstract: A brush assembly with an applicator rod, a brush sleeve with a tubular core member and a plurality of bristles, a rod hole in the distal end of the applicator rod, and a rivet for being received into the rod hole to retain the brush sleeve. A peripheral retaining wall can retain and protect a proximal end of the brush sleeve. The brush sleeve can have radially projecting, diamond-shaped bristles and can be slidably received over a body portion of the rivet or over a support stem forming a distal portion of the applicator rod. The body portion of the rivet or the support stem can have a non-circular cross section or an arcuate longitudinal profile to induce the brush sleeve to have the non-circular cross section or acruate longitudinal profile. A method for producing brush assemblies can produce brush assemblies with brush sleeves of varied cross sections.Type: GrantFiled: November 26, 2008Date of Patent: April 10, 2012Assignee: HCP Packaging USA, Inc.Inventors: Thomas F. Holloway, Frederick J. Dobbins, Stephen G. Dudienski, Raymond P. Legassie
