  • Publication number: 20230249280
Abstract: A method for attaching a cover to a base includes coupling the cover to the base and welding the cover to the base using a friction stir welding tip. The method further includes pushing the cover against the base using a shoulder through which the friction stir welding tip extends.

  • Patent number: 10199076
Abstract: Certain exemplary aspects of the present disclosure are directed towards a manufacturing apparatus including a first chamber having a first cavity, and a first actuator. The first actuator aligns the opening of the first chamber to an opening in a second chamber having a second cavity, sealing the first cavity to the second cavity. The manufacturing apparatus further includes gas flow componentry that in conjunction with the first actuator and first chamber evacuate the second cavity by drawing a vacuum in the first cavity. After the second cavity is evacuated, the gas flow componentry fills the second cavity filled with a gas by introducing the gas to the first cavity. A second actuator seals the gas in the second cavity by applying a seal that covers the opening in the second chamber while the first and second cavity remains sealed to one another via the first actuator.

  • Patent number: 6550328
Abstract: Method for balancing a rotary object, such as a disc drive disc pack. A balance correction member is provided as a C-shaped ring formed from a length of wire of nominally uniform cross-sectional area. The member has a substantially elliptical shape in an uncompressed state. During installation, the amount of imbalance in the disc pack is measured and a member with an appropriate length is selected and compressed to a substantially circular shape. The compressed member is then placed adjacent the disc pack so that the member expands to compressingly engage an annular recess in the disc pack. The member is preferably installed using an automated dynamic balance correction station as part of a high volume disc drive manufacturing environment.

  • Patent number: 6487036
Abstract: A vibratory feeder having a component rod assembly with a component key, a component rod and a component load ramp configured to support balance correction members, a vibrator assembly advancing the balance correction members along the component rod assembly to an escapement assembly with an escapement blade allowing one balance correction member at a time to progress onto a component stop which stages and releases the balance correction member into the gravity feed chute that transports the balance correction member to confinement within a component retainer and on to an air activated shutter that dispenses the balance correction member upon activation of a shutter air slide. The vibrator assembly includes a vibration source motor mounted at the center of mass of the vibratory feeder assembly.
