Patent number: 10503896Abstract: The subject matter of this specification generally relates to data security. In some implementations, a method includes receiving, from data owners, a first cryptographically secure representation of data to be monitored for data breaches. Each first cryptographically secure representation can include a cryptographically secure data structure that represents a plurality of first data records maintained by the data owner. One or more second cryptographically secure representations of second data records are received from a user. A number of the second cryptographically secure representations that match a corresponding portion of the first cryptographically secure representation received from a data owner is determined. A determination is made that a data breach occurred for the data owner based on the number of the second cryptographically secure representations that match the corresponding portion of the first cryptographically secure representation received from the data owner.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 2017Date of Patent: December 10, 2019Assignee: Chronicle LLCInventors: Carey Stover Nachenberg, Stephen Gillett

Patent number: 8658879Abstract: A method of making musical sounds from a musical instrument may include amplifying musical sounds from vibrations of a vibrating element when a musical instrument is played, sensing forces between the musical instrument and the vibrating element and altering the forces applied to the vibrating element in response to the sensed forces to emulate musical sounds produced by a musical instrument having different musical characteristics, for example, to emulate an acoustic guitar. Piezoelectric material or magnetic material may be used to apply forces along one or more than one axis of vibration and may be controlled by a replaceable element and/or in response to user adjustments. The applied forces may be adjusted to control relative phase between the sensed and applied forces to avoid unwanted musical effects, such as unwanted sustained oscillation, in response to a fundamental period of the vibrations or random number generation to change the vibration waveform.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 2008Date of Patent: February 25, 2014Inventor: Stephen Gillette

Patent number: 7453040Abstract: A musical instrument may include a musical instrument body, a vibrating element associated with the musical instrument body for producing musical sounds, a transducer coupled to a portion of the vibrating element to apply forces to the vibrating element, a sensor responsive to forces between the transducer and the vibrating element and a signal conditioner responsive to forces sensed by the sensor for altering the forces applied by the transducer to the vibrating element to alter the vibrations of the vibrating element. Alternately, a structure may be included supporting the vibrating element to permit vibrations, the structure coupled to the vibrating element to modify the vibrations in response to a drive signal and to produce an electrical signal related to the vibrations of the vibrating element and a signal conditioner responsive to forces sensed by the sensor for altering the forces applied by the transducer to the vibrating element to alter the vibrations of the vibrating element.Type: GrantFiled: December 2, 2005Date of Patent: November 18, 2008Inventor: Stephen Gillette

Publication number: 20050227071Abstract: The invention relates to redox-switchable material comprising a redox-active moiety adsorbed, bonded or both, to a semiconductor material. Among the preferred redox-active moieties disclosed herein are ferrocenes, acridines, and quinones though any such moiety may be employed. The redox-switchable material of this invention may be used to selectively remove one or more selected solutes from an aqueous solution wherein adsorption/complexation of the solute is influenced by the oxidation state of the redox-active moiety. In an alternative embodiment, inclusion moieties that are covalently bound to the redox-active moiety are employed to achieve selective complexation of the desired solute. Other possible applications of the disclosed materials are photoerasable writing media, electrochromic or photochromic materials, catalysis, and solar energy storage.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 30, 2002Publication date: October 13, 2005Inventors: Masahiro Muraoka, Stephen Gillett, Thomas Bell
