  • Publication number: 20110007345
Abstract: A printing system is disclosed. The printing system includes a first printer to print a first type of data to a medium and to print machine readable data on the medium including a unique identifier (ID), a database to store variable data information associated with the ID and a second printer to read the barcode to acquire the ID, retrieve the variable data from the database using the ID and print the variable data to the medium.

  • Patent number: 7817293
Abstract: A printer system stores a trace of a printer job in storage that is either local or accessible to the printer system. A remotely implemented tool accesses the stored printer job trace. The tool includes a graphical interface that displays the printer commands in the printer job trace in a human readable format. The commands may be displayed in a first window of the interface. In one embodiment, the interface includes a second window where details of a command selected or highlighted in the first window are displayed. The tool may be implemented as a secure web browser that requires password verification to access the printer job trace. The tool may include the ability to replace confidential print data with generic or non-confidential data. The tool might further be able to display text that is embedded in a printer job trace command in ASCII and EBCDIC format.

  • Publication number: 20100097635
Abstract: A method for providing computer services is disclosed. The method includes a print server receiving a data file including updates for a printer, parsing the file to acquire one or more update options and defaults for the printer and storing the update options and defaults for the printer in a database.

  • Publication number: 20100053665
Abstract: A method is disclosed. The method includes receiving a print file, removing images from the print file, replacing each image with a reference to the image, storing each image removed from the print file; and printing the print file. Each image is retrieved from storage to be printed upon encountering a reference to the image during printing of the print file.

  • Patent number: 7180615
Abstract: A method and apparatus for implementing one click printing in an application such as a web browser. The present invention exploits the “pull print” method without requiring copying of the URL. An application is enhanced so that when the user clicks on the link for the pre-formatted document, the application contacts the user's printer, print server, or other device that accepts print jobs, and submits a “pull print” request referring to the URL. Alternatively, the user accesses the context menu for a link which points to a printable document, the menu presented includes a choice to directly print the document, and then the “pull print” is done.

  • Patent number: 7100169
Abstract: Provided is a method, system, and program for sending notification to an Input/Output (I/O) device comprised of multiple components of an event from an originating device that transmits data to the I/O device. The originating device detects a notification event and generates a notification message in response to the detected notification event to transmit to the I/O device. In response to receiving the notification message, the I/O device activates at least one of the multiple components. The notification message may be transmitted to the I/O device on a first port at the I/O device, where data is received at a second port at the I/O device. In response to receiving the notification message on the first port, the I/O device activates at least one of the multiple components.

  • Patent number: 6615161
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for adjusting an interval of polling a peripheral device (e.g., printer) for status information, as based on the presence of a predetermined condition. In one embodiment of the present invention, short polling intervals are used to poll a peripheral device when a station (e.g., computer system) is not receiving adequate and/or reliable notification of interrupts/alerts that occur at the peripheral device. Long polling intervals are used to poll the peripheral device when the station is receiving adequate and/or reliable notification of interrupts that occur at the peripheral device.
