  • Publication number: 20060191140
Abstract: A jigsaw having a housing 4,6 and a support shoe 38 pivotable relative to the housing is disclosed. A bridge member 42 is mounted to the support shoe 38 and is connected to a connector piece 44 to define a conduit for transporting air from a duct in the housing, connected to a fan for cooling a motor in the housing, to a location at which a jigsaw blade of the jigsaw cuts through a workpiece. Actuation of a trigger 10 on the housing supplies power to a motor in the housing, which causes reciprocating motion of the jigsaw blade, and causes the fan in the housing to expel air through bridge member 42. Air is directed from bridge member 42 onto the jigsaw blade in a direction transverse to a line of cutting action of the jigsaw. This enables 10 the outlet of bridge member 42 to be located very close to the jigsaw blade without obscuring the user's view of the blade, and blows dust away from the line to be cut by the jigsaw 2.

  • Publication number: 20060185173
Abstract: A jigsaw (2) having a housing (4) and a jigsaw support shoe (16) is disclosed. A motor in the housing (4) causes reciprocating motion of a jigsaw blade, and causes a fan in the housing to emit air from the housing. Air is driven by the fan via a connector piece (22) and a bridge member (20) towards the jigsaw blade in a direction transverse to a line of cutting action of the jigsaw (2). An inlet of a suction tube, connected to a source of suction such as a vacuum cleaner, is provided on the opposite side of the jigsaw blade to the bridge member (20). Provision of a stream of air in a direction transverse to the line of cutting action of the jigsaw (2) allows the outlet of the bridge member (20) to be located close to the jigsaw blade without obscuring the user's view of the location at which the blade cuts the workpiece, while the provision of an inlet to a suction tube on the opposite side of the jigsaw blade further constrains the stream of air to improve dust extraction.

  • Publication number: 20060104085
Abstract: A power tool, such as a screwdriver is described, which comprises an illumination device 18 for illuminating a work region. The illumination device is disposed on the front face of the screwdriver's gearbox to achieve this aim. Also provided is an extension piece 22 which is attachable to the front of the screwdriver. A central prop-shaft 24 engages with the spindle 16 when the extension piece is attached to the screwdriver. A waveguide 40 is provided to guide light emitted by the illumination device(s) so as to provide sufficient illumination of a work region when the extension piece is attached to the screwdriver. The light is emitted from the waveguide in a direction which is generally axial to the axis of rotation of the extension's drive output 28. The screwdriver is operable in two modes, with or without the extension and sufficient illumination of a work region is provided in both modes.

  • Patent number: 6839934
Abstract: A multi-operational battery powered vacuum cleaner (1) comprising a hand held vacuum cleaner (1) releasably mounted within a caddy (15) which has a detachable handle (51) and a floor engaging head (19). The hand held unit (1) may be released from the caddy to be used in a first hand held operation. It may alternatively be mounted within the caddy with the handle attached for use as an upright vacuum cleaner in a second operational mode. In a third operational mode the handle (51) may be removed from the caddy while the hand held unit remains mounted in the caddy to provide a compact vacuum cleaner system with a floor engaging head (19). The cleaner further comprises a first spring biased latch member (27) mounted within the caddy (15) to releasably restrain the hand held unit therein A second latch member (53) is mounted within the handle (57) for releasably connecting the handle to the caddy (15).
