  • Patent number: 4769919
Abstract: The probe has a piezo-electric sensor (22A) for determining initial contact of a stylus (16) with a workpiece (4). It also has a kinematic support (18) made up of confronting electrical contacts (19, 20) which are connected to indicate displacement of the stylus from a rest position and correct reseating on the kinematic support. The sensor (22A) and the electrical contacts (19, 20) are connected to an electrical circuit (24) within the probe. The circuit (24) has only two terminals connecting it to an external interface (9), which both receives the signals from and supplies power to the sensor (22A) and the contacts (19, 20). This enables the receipt of a signal from the contacts (19, 20) to provide a fail-safe backup to the signal from the sensor (22A) and to indicate correct reseating of the probe, while maintaining the interface (9) compatible with prior art probes having only one workpiece-engagement sensing arrangement with two terminals.

  • Patent number: 4674879
Abstract: Oil concentration levels in water are measured by a light scattering/absorption technique. The intensity of directly transmitted and scattered light signals are compared to provide a correction factor corresponding to the level of solid contaminents in the mixture. This correction factor is then applied to a signal corresponding to the intensity of light transmitted directly through the mixture to provide an accurate oil concentration measurement.

  • Patent number: 4201471
Abstract: A system for determining the concentration of oil in a mixture of oil and water including an aligned photocell and a displaced photocell spaced therefrom to receive direct and reflected and/or refracted light through a scatter cell from a laser. A logarithmic amplifier is connected from the aligned photocell because a logarithm of the output thereof is a linear function. The displaced photocell output is essentially linear over a typical range above 200 parts per million (ppm). The output of the logarithmic amplifier is essentially linear below about 200 ppm. The linear portion of each output is combined by a switch when the logarithmic amplifier output passes through a selected threshold level.
