Patent number: 7835344Abstract: A voice call is transported through diverse network paths including a switched telephone network and a wide area data internetwork, for example, the Internet. In routing the call, common channel signalling is used to provide data identifying a calling subscriber line from a calling PSTN, which information can then be transported through the separate data internetwork to the destination PSTN, at which the data is then extracted and sent to the called subscriber line while completing routing of the call. A route for the call is established at gateways connected to the data internetwork at the interface points with the calling and destination PSTNs, calling subscriber line information and dialed digit information being conveyed to the gateways. The destination end gateway initiates a call connection to the calling subscriber line via the destination PSTN to complete routing of the call, while supplying identification of the calling subscriber line in a form recognized as such by the called PSTN.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 2001Date of Patent: November 16, 2010Assignee: Verizon Services Corp.Inventors: Dale L. Bartholomew, Robert D. Farris, Stephen J. Flaherty

Patent number: 6438218Abstract: A public switched telephone network utilizing program controlled switching systems controlled by common channel interoffice signaling (CCIS) and preferably an advanced intelligent network (AIN) CCIS network is arranged in an architecture to provide a methodology for facilitating telephone use of the Internet by customers on an impromptu basis. Provision is made to permit a caller to set-up and carry out a telephone call over the Internet from telephone station to telephone station without access to computer equipment and without the necessity of maintaining a subscription to any Internet service. Billing may be accomplished on a per call basis. The calls may be inter and intra LATA, region or state and may be nationwide. Usage is made of CCIS signaling to set up the call and establish the necessary Internet connections and addressing. Calls may be made from telephone station to telephone station, from voice capable computer to voice capable computer, or from telephone to computer or computer to telephone.Type: GrantFiled: April 18, 1996Date of Patent: August 20, 2002Inventors: Robert D. Patent number: 6167253Abstract: In an information distribution system having mobile users, a method of distributing communication channels to mobile users includes transmitting information signals including at least one of Web related information and Internet related information received via one ore more of the Internet, ADSL, another mobile, a land-based user, and the at least one information service provider. The method also includes receiving the information signals from one or more of the Internet, ADSL, another mobile, a land-based user, and the information service provider in the receiver of the mobile terminal, and storing the information signals in its entirety in the mobile terminal prior to broadcasting and/or displaying same to the mobile user. The method also formats, broadcasts and/or displays the information signals after being stored in the mobile terminal.Type: GrantFiled: December 24, 1997Date of Patent: December 26, 2000Assignee: Bell Atlantic Network Services, Inc.Inventors: Robert D. Patent number: 6038227Abstract: A system and method for interposing in the feeder system of a switched telecommunications network an adjunct programmable program controlled switching system providing preselection of service providers and the functionalities provided. The adjunct switching system is preferably enclosed in a controlled environment vault existing in the feeder system of the telecommunications network and housing optical to electrical interfaces. The system and method provide for by-passing the end office switches in the telecommunications network to connect subscribers to various services such as competitor local exchange networks, LANs, interexchange carrier points of presence, the Internet, packet data networks, wireless communication systems, traffic operator position stations, video services, and the like. The adjunct switching system provides both wideband and narrowband switching.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 1997Date of Patent: March 14, 2000Assignee: Bell Atlantic Network Services, Inc.Inventors: Robert D. Patent number: 5838682Abstract: An Internet type access system includes an autodialer for automatically establishing communications with a merchant's facility over a switch network while maintaining Internet connectivity over a packet data network. The autodialer, in combination with the merchant's server, coordinates between the Internet session and the newly established switched connectivity, the session history from the prior Internet session being supplied to a sales representative receiving the autodialed call. The sales representative is provided with a terminal for controlling the merchant's server to push data to the client in response to the interactive session simultaneously conducted over the switched network.Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 1995Date of Patent: November 17, 1998Assignee: Bell Atlantic Network Services, Inc.Inventors: George J. Patent number: 5708961Abstract: A digital network delivers multiplexed channels to a customer premises. Each multiplexed channel contains a digitally multiplexed data stream including digitized broadband information relating to a number of programs. At the customer premise, a shared processing system includes several channel selectors and program selectors. Each channel selector selects one of the multiplexed channels, and each program selector selects digitized broadband information relating to a selected program from a selected channel. A multiplexer combines the selected digitized broadband information from the program selectors into a transport stream. A transmitter system, for example comprising a digital modulator, a spread spectrum modulator and a broadcast antenna, provides a wireless broadcast of the digital transport stream throughout the customer premise and possibly one or more near by premises.Type: GrantFiled: August 18, 1995Date of Patent: January 13, 1998Assignee: Bell Atlantic Network Services, Inc.Inventors: Denny L.
