Patent number: 11962009Abstract: A high-performance electrochemically active sodium molten salt catholyte enables a dramatic reduction in molten sodium battery operating temperature from near 300° C. to less than 120° C. As an example, stable electrochemical cycling was demonstrated in a high voltage (3.65 V) sodium battery comprising a sodium iodide-gallium chloride (NaI—GaCl3) molten salt catholyte for over 8 months at 110° C. The combination of high voltage, stable cycling behavior, and practical current densities supported by a molten catholyte enables a new generation of transformative high performance, low temperature molten sodium batteries.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 2021Date of Patent: April 16, 2024Assignee: National Technology & Engineering Solutions of Sandia, LLCInventors: Erik D. Patent number: 7659017Abstract: For various reasons, it can be desirable to subject fuel cells to drying procedures. In solid polymer electrolyte fuel cells for instance, drying may be carried out prior to storing at below freezing temperatures, or to recover cell performance lost following freeze/thaw events. An improved drying method involves drying the cell uniformly throughout. That is, the drying power over the length of the fuel cell is adjusted to be essentially uniform. This can be accomplished by using an appropriate set of operating conditions. The improved drying method can improve the lifetime of the fuel cell.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 2005Date of Patent: February 9, 2010Assignees: Daimier AG, Ford Motor CompanyInventors: Pui Yan Joyce Yip, Julie Bellerive, Stephen J. Computer-implemented method for controlling execution of application software by a computer terminal
Publication number: 20040221169Abstract: Prior to execution of application software by a computer terminal, the computer terminal is connected to an electronic key and initiates a registration procedure with a remote server so as to obtain a software registration code that is stored in each of the computer terminal and the electronic key. Thereafter, it is only when the computer terminal is connected to the electronic key, and when the software registration code stored in the computer terminal matches that stored in the electronic key will subsequent execution of the application software by the computer terminal be enabled. The method as such can discourage software piracy.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 28, 2004Publication date: November 4, 2004Inventors: Stephen J. Lee, Thomas P. Lee, Alin Lin -
Patent number: 6772197Abstract: In a method and apparatus for enabling communication between a computer terminal and a servicing station in a remote controlled system, after a communications link has been established between the computer terminal and the servicing station, video signals of the computer terminal are captured and are transmitted to the servicing station via the communications link so that images shown on the computer terminal can be shown by a display monitor of the servicing station. At the same time, input signals received from and generated by an input device of the servicing station are transmitted to the computer terminal via the communications link so as to enable remote control of the computer terminal via the servicing station.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 2000Date of Patent: August 3, 2004Inventors: Stephen J. Patent number: 5444374Abstract: A method and a device for implementing the method, for geophysical surveying of an area (1) including continuous measurement of the earth's magnetic and electromagnetic field using a detector (6) held at a constant height (E) above the ground surface, in the order of one meter, while traversing in a criss-cross manner over the area (1) at speeds below a maximum speed (S), in the order of 10 km/h, and utilizing measured signal frequencies below a cutoff (F), being approximately the maximum speed (S) divided by twice the detector height (E), to indicate spatial variations in the measured field. Traversal distance can be measured on board the host vehicle and a real time output supplied. Simultaneously, using the same detector (6) and artificially induced magnetic fields generated by an inductive (2b and/or galvanic source (2a)), temporally varying fields having frequencies above the cutoff (F) can be measured and simply filtered out of the detector's (6) output for separate processing and storage.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 1993Date of Patent: August 22, 1995Assignee: University of New EnglandInventors: John Stanley, Malcolm K.
