  • Publication number: 20240071593
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed that provide smart alerts to users, e.g., alerts to users about diabetic states that are only provided when it makes sense to do so, e.g., when the system can predict or estimate that the user is not already cognitively aware of their current condition, e.g., particularly where the current condition is a diabetic state warranting attention. In this way, the alert or alarm is personalized and made particularly effective for that user. Such systems and methods still alert the user when action is necessary, e.g., a bolus or temporary basal rate change, or provide a response to a missed bolus or a need for correction, but do not alert when action is unnecessary, e.g., if the user is already estimated or predicted to be cognitively aware of the diabetic state warranting attention, or if corrective action was already taken.

  • Patent number: 6176663
Abstract: An apparatus for reducing the bending stress imparted to threaded fasteners in flanged connections is disclosed. The apparatus includes a stress reducing washer positioned between the head of the threaded fastener and a counterbore in the backface of the flange. In a first embodiment, the stress reducing washer uses a tapered upper surface oriented with respect to the flange to compensate for flange deflection as the threaded fastener is tightened to a predetermined torque value. Second and third embodiments utilizing spherical and cylindrical surfaces are also shown. A fourth embodiment eliminates the need for the stress reducing washer and machines the tapered surface in the backface of the flange.

  • Patent number: 5637356
Abstract: Polyesters are formed from diols and dibasic carboxylic acids at an OH/COOH ratio to provide --OH termination, and then end-capped with tribasic carboxylic acids. A major portion of the dibasic carboxylic acids used to form the polyesters have the formula: ##STR1## where x=8-32, y=0-8, x+y=8-32. The polyesters are used as support resins for forming acrylic resin emulsions. The polyester/acrylic acid emulsions are useful, for example, as textile size.

  • Patent number: 5314024
Abstract: An angular and radial self-aligning coupling includes a first support block having a flow bore therethrough with an enlarged counterbore around one outlet of the flow bore. The enlarged counterbore forms a convex annular surface. A spherical seal plate also having a flow bore therethrough includes a concave surface on one side which matingly engages the convex annular surface of the support block. The spherical seal plate also has an annular bearing surface on its other side which engages a bearing face on a radial seal plate. The radial seal plate includes a stab counterbore on its other side. A second support block includes a flow bore therethrough and includes a piston which may be hydraulically actuated to an extended position. Upon actuation of the piston, the piston enters the stab counterbore and the radial seal plate and spherical seal plate automatically adjust for any radial or angular misalignment to allow the piston to stab within the stab counterbore.

  • Patent number: 4209891
Abstract: Apparatus for positioning a first part with respect to a second part is characterized by a cylindrical guide respectively attachable to each part, a helical surface being disposed on each guide, each helical surface including a right hand half and a left hand half. A piston-cylinder is disposed on the second part, the piston being extendable to engage the guide on the first part to axially align the guides. After alignment, the piston is retractable to bring the helical surfaces into contact to generate a torque and align the parts. In another embodiment, the guide for the second part is formed on the piston while the guide on the first part has an axial alignment member projecting therefrom to engage the guide on the second part to align the guides. Once aligned, the helical surfaces contact each other with the piston extended. The contact between the helical surfaces causes the rotational alignment of the second part with respect to the first part.

  • Patent number: 4159637
Abstract: A test tool and a method of testing is disclosed for testing for leaks in apparatus having a bore and a landing surface, such as blowout preventers, wellheads, casing hangers, and the like. The test tool is connected to pipe having a passage therethrough, which has a landing surface for landing on the landing surface of the bore, bypass passages automatically closed on landing and during testing, packing means for effecting a seal in the bore, a pressure relief valve and hydraulic passages communicating with the passage in the pipe, the packing means, and the relief valve which opens at a predetermined pressure. The packing is set either hydraulically, mechanically or by a combination thereof. The packing is set hydraulically by a piston and cylinder which are activated by hydraulic setting pressure in the passages and then hydraulic test pressure is released by the relief valve to the space above the packing for testing the apparatus.
