  • Publication number: 20120263657
Abstract: Disclosed are topical oral compositions comprising a safe and effective amount of an antimicrobial agent in admixture with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, the compositions being effective in controlling bacterial-mediated diseases and conditions present in the oral cavity and in inhibiting the spread into the bloodstream of pathogenic oral bacteria, associated bacterial toxins and endotoxins, and resultant inflammatory cytokines and mediators. Also disclosed are methods of use of these topical antimicrobial oral compositions to reduce the risk of developing an oral bacteria-induced systemic disease and to promote whole body health in humans and other animals.

  • Patent number: 8277782
Abstract: The present invention relates to topical oral care compositions comprising in a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier a safe and effective amount of a host-response modulating agent including one or more of an anti-oxidant and modifier of cell redox status, anti-inflammatory agent, metalloproteinase inhibitor, vitamins and nutrients key to maintenance of a host response balance and inhibitor of activation of NF-kB in combination with one or a mixture of additional oral therapeutic actives selected from antimicrobial/antiplaque agents, biofilm inhibiting agents, antibiotics; analgesics and local anesthetic agents; dentinal desensitizing agents and odor masking agents. The present compositions are effective in treating and preventing bacteria-mediated diseases present in the oral cavity and in mediating host reaction to the presence of pathogenic bacteria in the oral cavity as well as the toxins and endotoxins, inflammatory cytokines and mediators released or prompted by these oral pathogens.

  • Publication number: 20110306018
Abstract: The present invention relates to promoting whole body health in humans and animals by using topical oral compositions comprising a safe and effective amount of an antimicrobial agent in admixture with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, said compositions being effective in controlling bacterial-mediated diseases and conditions present in the oral cavity and in inhibiting the spread into the bloodstream of pathogenic oral bacteria, associated bacterial toxins and endotoxins, and resultant inflammatory cytokines and mediators. The present invention also encompasses methods of use of these compositions by topically applying to the oral cavity, a safe and effective amount of an antimicrobial agent to promote and/or enhance whole body health in humans and other animals.

  • Patent number: 6846478
Abstract: The present invention relates to promoting whole body health in humans and animals by using topical oral compositions comprising a safe and effective amount of chlorite ion in admixture with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, said compositions being effective in controlling bacterial-mediated diseases and conditions present in the oral cavity and inhibiting the spread into the bloodstream of oral pathogenic bacteria and associated bacterial toxins and resultant inflammatory cytokines and mediators. The present invention also encompasses methods of use of these compositions by topically applying to the oral cavity, a safe and effective amount of chlorite ion to promote and/or enhance whole body health in humans and other animals.

  • Publication number: 20030206874
Abstract: The present invention relates to promoting whole body health in humans and animals by using topical oral compositions comprising an antimicrobial agent, in particular stannous salts, such as stannous fluoride and stannous chloride in combination with a polymeric mineral surface active agent such as condensed polyphosphates or polyphosphonates. In addition to providing a spectrum of intraoral benefits, topical administration of the present compositions to the oral cavity surprisingly provides benefits to systemic health. In particular, the present invention relates to methods of using the present topical oral compositions to reduce the risk in development of cardiovascular disease, stroke, atherosclerosis, diabetes, severe respiratory infections, premature births and low birth weight, post-partum dysfunction in neurologic and developmental functions, and associated increased risk of mortality.
