  • Patent number: 4941316
Abstract: The present invention discloses an improved chain assembly and a method for making the same. In general, the method of making a chain assembly in accordance with the present invention, comprises forming a plurality of links having a preselected shape and placement of apertures therein. A plurality of wire blanks are formed having an outer diameter to permit insertion into the apertures of the links. Such link is retained in a fixed position and a wire blank is inserted into each aperture of the link. On one end of each wire blank, a head is formed having a diameter larger than the aperture into which the wire blank is inserted. A mating link is placed into engagement with each link containing wire blanks with the end of each blank inserted in one aperture of the mating link in a manner to form a chain assembly. On the other end of each wire blank, a head is formed to complete interlocking of the links and blanks in forming the chain assembly.

  • Patent number: 4827668
Abstract: The present invention concerns a chain operator for a window which comprises a chain formed of a plurality of interconnected chain links and a casing having a spaced first and second chain exit openings. A chain guide track is disposed in the casing and extends between the first and second chain exit openings and is positioned to guide the chain between the chain exit openings. One end of the chain is affixed to a window and a drive sprocket is rotatably mounted in the casing. The drive sprocket has a plurality of sprocket teeth which lie along the planar surface of the drive sprocket and are engagable with the chain to drive the chain between the chain exit opening when the drive sprocket is rotated.

  • Patent number: 4762160
Abstract: A shade assembly for a skylight of the type adapted to be mounted in an opening in a roof structure and including a supporting base mounted in the opening in the roof structure and a dome assembly positioned in the supporting base to overlie the opening. The shade assembly includes a support bracket adapted to be affixed to the skylight and a shade support having a shade rolled thereabout. The shade support is rotatably mounted on the support bracket in a manner that permits the shade support to rotate so that the shade can be rolled and unrolled. A shade actuator is attached to the shade and is adapted to be grasped and activated to actuate rolling and unrolling of the shade. Guide surfaces are mountable on the skylight in position to engage and guide the actuator out of alignment with the visual passageway through the opening in the roof and the skylight while facilitating the uniform rolling and unrolling of the shade.

  • Patent number: 4750302
Abstract: An insulated glass skylight assembly is provided that is adapted to be mounted to cover an opening in a roof structure. The assembly includes a box-like liner adapted to be mounted adjacent the edge of an opening in a roof structure around the periphery thereof, to surround the opening and to form a wall extending upward from the roof structure. A swinging window unit is provided which includes an insulated glass insert, an inner supporting frame, and an outer encasing frame. The insulated glass insert is of a predetermined size and shape to substantially conform to the opening in the roof structure, and the inner supporting frame is adapted to engage and seat on the liner and to support the glass insert. The outer supporting frame is adapted to be coupled to the inner supporting frame and capture the glass insert therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4594821
Abstract: A skylight and roof assembly with at least a portion of the skylight adapted to be pivoted by a drive mechanism between open and closed positions with respect to an opening in the roof. At least one hinge is connected to the movable portion of the skylight and the fixed portion of the assembly to permit the pivotal movement. The hinge includes a first leg adapted to be mounted on the movble portion of the skylight in fixed position. The hinge includes a second leg adapted to be mounted on the non-movable portion of the skylight and roof assembly. A flange extends from the second leg and mating surfaces are on the first leg and the flange adapted to receive a coupling pin for pivotally interengaging the first and second leg with the first leg spaced from the second leg by the flange therebetween so that the movable portion of the skylight can be pivoted in a desired manner between the open and closed position.

  • Patent number: 4441284
Abstract: A skylight assembly is provided that is adapted to be mounted to cover an opening in a roof structure. The assembly includes a liner adapted to be mounted adjacent the edge of the opening in the roof structure around the periphery to surround the opening and to form a wall extending upward from the roof structure. Flashing is mounted at the area of joinder between the liner and the roof structure. An outer dome and an inner dome are spaced from one another with the outer dome overlying the inner dome. Both of the domes engage a sealing gasket positioned on the upper end of the liner wall. A supporting frame is coupled to the dome and the sealing gasket arrangement and is hinged to the liner to permit shifting thereof with respect to the liner between a closed position overlying the opening in the roof structure and an open position permitting access to the opening from the exterior of the roof structure.
