  • Patent number: 8551545
Abstract: A food package for segregating ingredients of a multi-component food product, such as the multiple components of a sandwich, the package comprising an outer container to house a first food component and at least one flexible envelope or barrier film layer that encloses at least one intermediate food component allowing for separation of the intermediate food component during extended periods of storage and prior to opening the product. A method for opening the package comprises applying a pulling force to an externally located protruding end portion of the envelope, such that the envelope peels apart and separates into ruptured layers that are pulled out of the food product and out of the outer container by the continual pulling force from the protruding end portion. Another method for opening comprises heating the container such that the barrier film layer ruptures upon heating, thus providing for components of the food product to combine.

  • Patent number: 7037424
Abstract: A connector apparatus is provided which is configured to replace a separation module in a system for dispensing a fluid. When it is desired to purge the system of a dispensed fluid, the connector apparatus, having the same configuration of an inlet and an outlet as the separation module, replaces the separation module and a purging fluid is passed through the system.

  • Patent number: 6068770
Abstract: A disposable separation module is disclosed which is capable of connecting to a fluid processing system in a quick-connect fashion. The module includes a housing containing a separation element with a plurality of fluid connectors on one end of the housing which are parallel to and exclusive of each other. This arrangement provides for essentially simultaneous engagement and fluid tight sealing of the fluid connectors to corresponding mating connectors on the fluid processing system. A retention mechanism is included which retains the entire module in fluid tight engagement by a single action without producing relative motion between the mating connectors.

  • Patent number: 5797867
Abstract: The user activated iontophoretic device of the present invention includes a disposable patch and a reusable controller. The patch contains an electrode assembly, an electrode reservoir and at least one drug reservoir. The patch is divided or otherwise separated into at least two portions, with one portion containing the electrode reservoir and the other containing the drug reservoir, which may include a medication in a dry form. The electrode reservoir and the drug reservoir are sealingly separated by a barrier, which can be manipulated to bring the reservoirs into fluid conducting contact with one another. A method of activating the device includes causing the two portions to rotate about a central axis relative to one another to manipulate the barrier and bring the reservoirs into fluid conducting contact with one another to at least partially hydrate one of the reservoirs. In this way, the device is suitable for use to deliver a drug which has limited stability in an aqueous solution.
