    Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method for detecting a target nucleic acid molecule in a sample. An immobilized oligonucleotide primer is extended using a polymerase, yielding an extension product that can be used in a detection assay. The assay is useful for detecting the presence of a target nucleic acid molecule in a sample and quantifying the amount of the target nucleic acid molecule in the sample. Also disclosed are ways of applying the method of the present invention.
