Patent number: 7997037Abstract: An integrated window sash includes a sash frame having a base between first and second sheet supporting surfaces and first and second sheets each having a first surface and an opposite second surface. The marginal edge portions of the first surface of the first sheet are secured to the first supporting surface, and marginal edge portions of the first surface of the second sheet are secured to the second supporting surface. The first surface of the second sheet faces and is spaced from the second surface of the first sheet to provide a compartment therebetween. A desiccating medium carried in a groove, or on the base communicates with the compartment, and the base and the desiccating medium define an interior opening in the sash frame, wherein the first sheet is sized to pass through the interior opening to the first sheet supporting surface without contacting the desiccating medium.Type: GrantFiled: June 23, 2004Date of Patent: August 16, 2011Assignee: PPG Industries Ohio, Inc.Inventors: Stephen L. Patent number: 6301858Abstract: An insulating glass unit is provided having a first glass sheet spaced from a second glass sheet by a spacer frame. The spacer frame, preferably a flexible spacer frame, has a first side and a second side, with the first side located adjacent an inner-surface of the first glass sheet and the second side located adjacent the inner-surface of the second glass sheet. A sealant system, e.g. a three component sealant system, is provided adjacent each side of the spacer frame, e.g. by forming or flowing the sealant system on the outer surface of the spacer frame, to hold the glass sheets to the spacer frame. The sealant system includes a first structural sealant, such as a thermosetting material, spaced from a second structural sealant, such as another or the same thermosetting material. A moisture barrier material, preferably a thermoplastic material such as PIB, is located between the first and second structural sealant materials.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 1999Date of Patent: October 16, 2001Assignee: PPG Industries Ohio, Inc.Inventor: Stephen L. Patent number: 4768321Abstract: A method of replacing damaged panels of a cladding system includes the use of a replacement panel. The replacement panel includes a sheet having a side hanger secured to a major surface of the sheet at each of opposed sides of the sheets and extending beyond their adjacent side of the sheet and a bottom hanger secured to the major surface of the sheet adjacent bottom edge of the sheet and having an exterior facing groove. After the damaged panel is removed, an opening is provided defined by the top hanger of the removed panel, vertical splines and a horizontal spline. The exterior groove of the bottom hanger is mounted on the horizontal spline and the panel tilted in position against adhesive provided on outer surface of top hanger. Extending portions of the side hangers are screw fastened to underlying ones of the vertical splines. Thereafter, the space between the previously installed panel and replacement panel is filled with a layer of silicone.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 1986Date of Patent: September 6, 1988Assignee: PPG Industries, Inc.Inventor: Stephen L. Patent number: 4738065Abstract: This invention relates to a curtainwall system having panels mounted on a grid formed of vertical and horizontal mullions having a planar or flat exterior surface. Each of the panels is provided with a frame formed of hanger sections having a groove facing the interior of the frame. A panel engaging clip has one end inserted in the groove of the hanger frame and the other portion of the clip secured to the grid. The clip urges the hanger against the weatherstripping of the grid to provide an air and dust tight seal. A polyurethane block is mounted in the space between adjacent panels and thereafter a silicone is extruded into the space.Type: GrantFiled: January 2, 1987Date of Patent: April 19, 1988Assignee: PPG Industries, Inc.Inventor: Stephen L.
