  • Patent number: 6612045
Abstract: A tile spacer is provided which can be used to create consistent gaps between tiles in a tile floor installation. The spacer is in the form of a cross having a center and four arms extending outwardly from said center with each arm positioned at an angle of about ninety degrees from each adjacent arm, and each arm has a predetermined width for forming a space of desired width between adjacent tiles placed on a substantially flat, adhesive-coated surface which will be subsequently filled with grout, and a groove of predetermined shape connecting the diagonally opposed intersections between the arms forms a raised bead in the adhesive for providing further support for the tiles and grout once the adhesive cures.

  • Publication number: 20020182318
Abstract: A hand-held adhesive trough is provided which enables a floor or wall installer to comfortably hold in one hand an adhesive trough while using a bladed tool such as a trowel or tape knife with the other hand to apply adhesive to an underlying surface to which a floor or wall is to be installed. The trough includes a first compartment for fresh adhesive, and a second compartment for contaminated adhesive removed from the blade of the trowel. A trowel blade cleaner is incorporated in a wall of the second compartment to enable the installer to clean the trowel while holding the trough by sliding the blade through a v-shaped slot, with the old, contaminated adhesive falling from the blade into the second compartment. The compartments may include removable, disposable liners to ease clean-up. A comfortable, pistol-grip type handle is provided which may include a two-part adhesive for allowing the installer to form a custom-grip handle which conforms to the installer's grip.

  • Patent number: 5839152
Abstract: An apparatus for removing adhesive or other contaminants from a hand trowel. Two embodiments are disclosed, each including a body having a slot extending through at least a portion thereof, and through which the trowel blade is drawn for cleaning. A pair of opposing scraping blades is mounted to the body, on either side of an entry end of the slot. The blades are maintained in spaced relation, a distance approximating the thickness of the trowel blade. In one embodiment, the body includes, at one end, a handle for gripping. The underside of the body may also be attached to another blade, having a special scraping edge on its forward portion. In this configuration, the first embodiment performs yet another cleaning function, as a floor scraping tool. In the other embodiment, the body is structurally integrated with a reservoir, or trough, adapted for mounting over a portion of the lip of a bucket containing adhesive.

  • Patent number: 5516170
Abstract: An apparatus and method for installing floor covering. The present invention provides a floor-engaging roller to the rear portion of a "kicker", used in the trade to install floor covering. The roller vertically spaces the rear, knee-butting portion of the kicker from the floor, and maintains the forward head portion in proper position, so it more effectively engages the floor covering. The roller also provides significantly reduced friction in forward movement of the kicker, reducing the work effort of the installer. Interchangeable face plates on the head of the kicker allow it to be used both on carpet and on vinyl floor coverings. A complete, new kicker and structures for modifying existing kickers in accordance therewith, and methods for using same, are disclosed.
