  • Publication number: 20110301509
Abstract: A passive therapy device to facilitate range-of-motion in the human hand, wrist, and/or forearm after surgery, trauma, arthritic complications, rehabilitative therapy, or other events that resulted in limited wrist motion or stiffness. This device facilitates the therapy by utilizing gravity and leverage. Comprised of two modified isosceles triangular rigid sides separated by and narrowing to a point by means of a sandwiched wedge, and a boot and strap comprised of a strong, yet soft material on the outside of one of said rigid sides. This device provides therapy to restricted tissue in the human hand, wrist, and forearm while applying passive tension during rehabilitation. Readily converting from supination/pronation therapy to extension/flexion therapy, and radial/ulnar deviation, the device can also be used on the right or left hand. This invention provides a low cost, simple to use rehabilitation device.

  • Patent number: 7971742
Abstract: A containment device for a liquid handling system is presented. The devise has a vault having a cavity, a closed bottom and an open top. A supporting device having a first half of a quick connect system connected to external plumbing is positioned in a lower portion of the cavity and secured to the vault to provide support for a weight of the liquid handling system. A bracket having a second half of a quick connect system connected to internal plumbing for the liquid handling system is configured to retain the liquid handling system, contact the supporting device when the bracket and liquid handling system is lowered into the cavity and mate the first second halves of the quick connect system allowing liquid to flow from the external plumbing to the internal plumbing. A lid is secured to the top for minimizing the intrusion of environmental elements into the vault.

  • Patent number: 7644306
Abstract: A method for effecting synchronized operation of an application by a plurality of processing units, each processing unit may include an application processing section coupled with an own data store and a communication section coupled for communications with other processing units, includes: (a) operating each processing unit to store data relating to the operation of the application in its own data store; (b) recognizing a processing unit experiencing an anomalous event disruptive of data as a needy processing unit; and (c) when the anomalous event is past, operating the needy processing unit to effect access to all other data stores than its own data store to obtain updated data. The access may be effected by the needy processing unit operating as a subscriber unit communicating with respect to the other data store operating as a publisher unit.

  • Patent number: 7586233
Abstract: Composite materials comprising ferroelastic ceramic particulates dispersed in a metal matrix are capable of vibration damping. When the ferroelastic ceramic particulates are subjected to stress, such as the cyclic stress experienced during vibration of the material, internal stresses in the ceramic cause the material to deform via twinning, domain rotation or domain motion thereby dissipating the vibrational energy. The ferroelastic ceramic particulates may also act as reinforcements to improve the mechanical properties of the composites. The composite materials may be used in various structural components in vehicles, aircraft, spacecraft, buildings and tools.

  • Publication number: 20080080960
Abstract: An adaptor pole for use with an ISO marine container. The marine container is characterized as having a top, bottom and connecting sidewalls and further having at least one corner casting characterized as having openings in its top and at least one side thereof. The adaptor pole is made up of an elongated cylindrical member having a proximal end and a distal end, an abbreviated cylindrical member joined substantially perpendicularly to the elongated cylindrical member proximate the proximal end thereof, a stabilizer plate located proximate and parallel to the abbreviated cylindrical member and a barrier plate bridging the stabilizer plate and abbreviated cylindrical member. The adaptor pole is sized to enable the proximal end of the elongated cylindrical member and abbreviated cylindrical member to be removably secured within the corner casting while the stabilizer plate resides thereon to maintain the orientation of the elongated cylindrical member with respect to the ISO marine container.
