  • Patent number: 5456679
Abstract: Delivery devices which include a beneficial agent and an activating mechanism in separate compartments separated by a moveable partition are designed to deliver the beneficial agent in a pulsatile manner through an orifice. The pulsatile delivery is achieved by a band of resilient material which is placed over the orifice. The resilient material is sufficiently tight to substantially seal the orifice when the pressure within the device is below a threshold level while at the same time being capable of being stretched when the internal pressure exceeds the threshold.

Date of Patent: October 10, 1995
    Assignee: Alza Corporation
Inventors: Stephen M. Balaban, James B. Pike, Jonathan P. Smith, Clifton A. Baile
  • Patent number: 5433711
Abstract: A syringe assembly is comprised of a plunger, a syringe barrel having a cannula collar at one end of the barrel and an interior chamber within the barrel, a hollow cannula secured within the syringe barrel collar with the cannula extending axially from the collar to its distal end, a bore extending axially through the cannula and the syringe barrel collar, a segment of the bore decreasing (e.g., tapering) in diameter as it extends in a direction from the distal end of the cannula toward the barrel interior chamber, and a sheath removably attached to the syringe barrel and covering the cannula, the sheath being affixed to a center rod extending axially from the sheath into the bore at the cannula distal end and then seating in a sealing engagement with said segment of the interior bore.

  • Patent number: 5304119
Abstract: An instrument for injecting implants through animal hide is comprised of an injector having a tubular body divided into two adjacent segments with a hollow interior bore extending through the segments of the body. The second segment of the body has a generally tapering configuration as it extends to the distal end of the body and is formed as a pair of laterally adjacent tines that extend longitudinally from adjacent the first body segment to the distal end of the body. One of the tines has a larger lateral width than a second of the tines at laterally adjacent cross sections of the tines, and one tine has a terminal end at the distal end of the body for making incisions through animal hide when employing the instrument in injecting implants. A push rod having a longitudinal length at least equal to the longitudinal length of the body is inserted through the interior bore of the body pushing the implant before it.

  • Patent number: 5209746
Abstract: Osmotically driven delivery capsules which include a beneficial agent and a water absorptive osmotic engine in separate compartments separated by a movable partition are designed to deliver the beneficial agent in a pulsatile manner through an orifice. The pulsatile delivery is achieved by a series of stops along the inner wall of the capsule which obstruct the movement of the partition but which are overcome in succession as the osmotic pressure rises above a threshold level. The number of stops and their placement longitudinally along the length of the capsule establish the number and frequency of the pulses, and the configuration of the partition controls the pulse intensity.

  • Patent number: 4281122
Abstract: Sodium dichloro s-triazine trione compositions can be prepared in high yields with essentially no waste disposal requirements, without need for refrigeration, with ease of process control and surprisingly low generation of hazardous byproduct nitrogen trichloride by chlorinating a sodium s-triazine trione in an aqueous mixture wherein the triazine compounds are essentially completely in the liquid phase and the amount of water is below about 65%.

  • Patent number: 4087608
Abstract: Chloro-s-triazine triones having improved crystal properties are obtained by reacting cyanuric acid, alkali metal hydroxide and chlorine in an aqueous reaction mixture in the presence of a crystal modifier selected from the group consisting of alkali metal disulfonates of alkylated diphenyloxide wherein the alkyl group contains from about 8 to about 14 carbon atoms, and alkylated diphenyloxide disulfonic acid wherein the alkyl group contains from about 8 to about 14 carbon atoms.
