Publication number: 20190271776Abstract: A radar system has different modes of operation. In a method for operating the radar system, at least one of one or more transmitters are configured to transmit modulated continuous-wave radio signals, while at least one of one or more receivers are configured to receive radio signals. The received radio signals include the transmitted radio signals transmitted by the one or more transmitters and reflected from objects in the environment. The method further includes selectively modifying an operational parameter of at least one of the transmitters or at least one of the receivers. The selected operational parameter is modified to meet changing operational requirements of the radar sensing system.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 15, 2019Publication date: September 5, 2019Inventors: Curtis Davis, Monier Maher, Jean P. Patent number: 9915050Abstract: An apparatus and method for ground improvement includes a device having a plurality of tines extending downwardly from a top plate in a manner to achieve displacement of ground material downward and radially outward. The tines may include ridges spaced vertically along an outer surface of the tines. The tines may also be in the form of opposing plates. The device is mechanically driven into the ground to achieve predetermined depths of penetration by the tines/plates. The device is retracted and driven repeatedly to achieve densification. Optionally, voids made by the device can be filled with a flowable media.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 2014Date of Patent: March 13, 2018Assignee: GEOPIER FOUNDATION COMPANY, INC.Inventors: Stephen A. Maher, Kord J. Wissmann

Patent number: 8360689Abstract: A method for ground improvement with hardened inclusions includes providing a device having a plurality of tines extending downwardly from a top plate in a manner to achieve displacement of ground material downward and radially outward. The device is mechanically driven into the ground to achieve predetermined depths of penetration by the tines and to create cavities at the location the tines are advanced. The device is at least partially retracted and hardening cementitious material backfill is added into the cavities for forming a plurality of hardened inclusions within the cavities.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 2010Date of Patent: January 29, 2013Assignee: Geopier Foundation Company, Inc.Inventors: Stephen A. Maher, Kord J. Wissmann

Patent number: 7513388Abstract: A device (10) for a drinks container (11), the device comprising a straw (16) and means for actuating the straw (16) between a retracted state, in which the straw (16) is housed, in use, substantially within the container (11), and an extended state, in which at least a portion of the straw (16) protrudes, in use, form the container (11). The actuating means may comprise a first casing (12) provided around a portion of the straw (16), the straw (16) and the casing (12) being rotatable with respect to one another about a longitudinal axis, the actuating means further comprising means for imparting generally linear movement to the straw (16) upon relative rotational movement of the casing and the straw portion.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 2004Date of Patent: April 7, 2009Inventor: Stephen Maher
