    Abstract: A method and a wireless device for exchanging messages with an access point (AP) while the wireless device is in a pre-associated state during which the wireless device is unauthenticated and is not associated with a network. The wireless device receives a beacon from the AP indicating that the AP will protect messages communicated with the wireless device. The wireless device then sends to the AP a message including a request for information from the AP. The wireless device obtains a public key of the AP, and receives an encrypted response to the request and an encrypted symmetric key. The wireless device decrypts the encrypted symmetric key using the public key of the AP to recover a symmetric key that is not encrypted, and decrypts the encrypted response to the request using the decrypted symmetric key to recover a response to the request that is not encrypted.

    Abstract: Systems and methods for tracking the privacy policy of an electronic device in a network having a privacy policy server and an authentication server are provided. In one aspect a privacy policy server receives a connection request from the electronic device, queries an authentication server for the device's privacy policy acceptance state. If the device had not accepted the network's privacy policy, the privacy policy server sends a URL to the device so the device may accept or reject the policy. The authentication server locates a network session identifier representing the device's connection with the network and response to the policy server indicating the device's current privacy policy acceptance state if applicable. Advantageously, a network session identifier can track a device's privacy policy acceptance state when the device reconnects with the network. The systems and methods are applicable in wireless networks, such as 802.11.

    Abstract: Methods and devices for encoding a point cloud. A current node associated with a sub-volume is split into further sub-volumes, each further sub-volume corresponding to a child node of the current node, and, at the encoder, an occupancy pattern is determined for the current node based on occupancy status of the child nodes. A probability distribution is selected from among a plurality of probability distributions based on occupancy data for a plurality of nodes neighbouring the current node. The encoder entropy encodes the occupancy pattern based on the selected probability distribution to produce encoded data for the bitstream and updates the selected probability distribution. The decoder makes the same selection based on occupancy data for neighbouring nodes and entropy decodes the bitstream to reconstruct the occupancy pattern.
