  • Patent number: 10321293
Abstract: A low power method of wirelessly transmitting sensor data between devices is disclosed in which a data connection is not required to be established between the devices in order to transfer the sensor data. The method comprises providing a first device (550) having sensor data therein received from at least one sensor. The first device (550) is operated in an advertising state so as to periodically and wirelessly broadcast data packets, wherein each data packet includes an identifier for identifying the first device and also includes said data from the at least one sensor (561, 562). A second device (552) is operated in a scanning state in which the second device (552) scans for data packets broadcast by other devices.

  • Publication number: 20180256049
Abstract: A heart rate monitor comprises a housing (30) and an optical heart rate (OHR) sensor within the housing (30). The OHR sensor comprises a sensing unit (40) including at least one light emitter (42a, 42b) arranged to emit light into the skin of a user and a photodetector (44) arranged to sense light reflected through the skin of the user. The housing (30) comprises a domed portion (60). The sensing unit (40) is exposed through a surface of the domed portion (60) and protrudes above the surface of the domed portion (60).

  • Publication number: 20180246474
Abstract: A user interface arrangement for a watch case comprising a display module and a non-conductive substantially transparent cover extending over the display module. The display module comprises a liquid crystal display (LCD) and a backlight. The user interface arrangement further comprise a capacitive sensor arrangement for controlling operation of the backlight in response to a user's touch on outer surface of the cover. The capacitive sensor arrangement comprises a pair of capacitive sensors arranged on opposed sides of the inner surface of the cover and is arranged such that a user must trigger both of the capacitive sensors simultaneously to activate the backlight.

  • Patent number: 9501044
Abstract: A fitness watch case (502) is disclosed comprising a display housing (504) that houses a display for displaying information to a user; and a user interface (506) having touch-sensitive input means for controlling the watch. The user interface (506) is spaced apart from the display housing (504), thereby enabling the user to operate the user interface using only a single finger. The watch case (502) is insertable into a strap (508) to form a fitness watch (500) that can be worn on the wrist of the user.

  • Publication number: 20150272458
Abstract: A heart rate monitor comprising an optical heart rate (OHR) sensor and a strap for mounting the sensor to a limb of a user is described. The OHR sensor comprises a sensing unit including at least one light emitter arranged to emit light into the skin of a user and a photodetector arranged to sense light reflected through the skin of the user. The sensing unit is arranged substantially centrally in the strap and the strap comprises compressible edge portions that run along opposite sides of the sensing unit such that, when the strap is mounted to a limb of a user, the edge portions are compressed against the skin to prevent or reduce the ingress of ambient light to the sensing unit.
