  • Patent number: 10503176
Abstract: Highway vehicle platoon management is provided. Driver quality parameters are used together with vehicle physical characteristic and performance information to select an ordering of the vehicles within the platoon. The vehicles within the platoon mutually self-order to select the ordering of the vehicles within the platoon for enhanced safety and efficiency. The driver quality parameters together with the vehicle physical characteristic and performance information is also used to reward best drivers with preferred locations within the platoon. The vehicles within the platoon mutually self-order to reward best drivers with preferred locations within the platoon. An existing vehicle platoon is selectively split into two or more smaller platoons for improving overall safety and efficiency. Two or more smaller vehicle platoons are selectively aggregated into a larger single platoon for improving overall safety and efficiency.

  • Patent number: 10482767
Abstract: A platoon management control system and method for local detection and determination of a non-platooning vehicle inserted or otherwise disposed between and/or adjacent to one or more platooning vehicle(s). A platooning vehicle determines a forward physical distance between itself and a vehicle physically ahead, and compares the determined physical distance with a value of a rearward distance to the platooning vehicle received from a next ahead platooning vehicle. The vehicle physically ahead is determined to be the next ahead platooning vehicle in accordance with a correspondence between the determined physical distance and the received value of the rearward distance. Conversely, the vehicle physically ahead is determined to be a non-platooning vehicle in accordance with a mis-correspondence between the determined physical distance and the received value of the rearward distance.

  • Patent number: 10467907
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for platoon initialization, redundant lane departure control, and redundant communication operation. A platooning initiation strategy requires continuous communication between vehicles for a more than a pre-defined duration, a demonstration of an operable brake light on the leading vehicle, and command control profile compatibility between the vehicles before allowing the vehicles to mutually platoon or to join an existing platoon. A set of computer readable labels visible to a Lane Departure System placed on a lead vehicle are used by a following vehicle when lane markings become invisible to sensors. A redundant brake lamp operable in a non-visible spectrum is provided for platooning. A specific brake lamp for use exclusively for platooning purposes may be provided.

  • Patent number: 10445271
Abstract: Apparatus and methods implementing a hardware queue management device for reducing inter-core data transfer overhead by offloading request management and data coherency tasks from the CPU cores. The apparatus include multi-core processors, a shared L3 or last-level cache (“LLC”), and a hardware queue management device to receive, store, and process inter-core data transfer requests. The hardware queue management device further comprises a resource management system to control the rate in which the cores may submit requests to reduce core stalls and dropped requests. • Publication number: 20190297258
Abstract: Various embodiments of the present invention relate generally to systems and methods for analyzing and manipulating images and video. In particular, a multi-view interactive digital media representation can be generated from live images captured from a camera as the camera moves along a path. Then, a sequence of the images can be selected based upon sensor data from an inertial measurement unit and upon image data such that one of the live images is selected for each of a plurality of poses along the path. A multi-view interactive digital media representation may be created from the sequence of images, and the images may be encoded as a video via a designated encoding format.

  • Publication number: 20190230282
Abstract: A method and system for generating a composite video for display in a vehicle. A plurality of video streams are generated from a plurality of video cameras configured to be positioned on the vehicle. The video streams are transformed by an electronic processor to create a virtual camera viewpoint. The transformed video streams are combined to generate a composite video including a portion of a first image that is generated from a first one of the video cameras. The electronic processor detects an object external to the vehicle and determines whether the object at least partially obscures the portion of the first image. When the object at least partially obscures the portion of the first image, the electronic processor supplements the portion of the first image with a portion of a second image that is generated by a second one of the video cameras.

  • Publication number: 20190204853
Abstract: A platoon management control uses the GPS position of the rear of a lead vehicle. The lead vehicle deceleration demand is overlaid upon the position of the rear of the lead vehicle. The following vehicle uses its own GPS position along with the radar or vision system of the following vehicle to determine the rear of the lead vehicle. When a lead vehicle's deceleration signal is subtracted from the position of the rear of the forward vehicle as determined by the following vehicle, the deceleration profile must be within an acceptable window to be valid. Also, one or more local sensors on adjacent platooning vehicles are used to communicate encoding scheme selection information and also to communicate the deceleration command signals. This permits the following vehicle to decode the deceleration command signals using a decoding scheme corresponding to the encoding scheme indicated as being used by the leading vehicle.

  • Publication number: 20190206261
Abstract: Vehicle brake performance monitoring is provided. The braking capabilities are dynamically learned or otherwise calculated or determined in each vehicle and shared between the vehicles of the platoon. The platoon may be reorganized based on differences between the learned or otherwise calculated or determined relative braking capabilities. Desired gaps between the platooning vehicles may be modified in accordance with the learned or otherwise calculated or determined relative braking capabilities as necessary or desired. During every vehicle stop, the vehicle and axle loads together with information on the time from brake apply to when the vehicle decelerates is monitored and entered as a data point defining the vehicle response delay. The axle loads and the ABS Activation of a wheel end for a given pressure is further selectively used to create another data point. The data points are selectively used to develop overall performance (e.g., quality score) of the brake system.

  • Patent number: 10340568
Abstract: An apparatus includes a top conductive layer of on an integrated circuit waveguide filter and a bottom conductive layer. The top and bottom conductive layers are coupled via a plurality of couplers that form an outline of the waveguide filter. A dielectric substrate layer is disposed between the top conductive layer and the bottom conductive layer of the integrated circuit waveguide filter. The dielectric substrate layer has a relative permittivity, ?r that affects the tuning of the integrated circuit waveguide filter. At least one tunable via includes a tunable material disposed within the dielectric substrate layer and is coupled to a set of electrodes. The set of electrodes enable a voltage to be applied to the tunable material within the tunable via to change the relative permittivity of the dielectric substrate layer and to enable tuning the frequency characteristics of the integrated circuit waveguide filter.
