  • Patent number: 6558008
Abstract: A method of fabricating a display system includes bonding a silicon substrate to a second substrate with an insulating layer. The silicon substrate is thinned to form a thin film silicon-on-insulator (SOI) structure. A matrix display circuit is formed with the SOI structure. A light shield pattern is formed over regions of the matrix display circuit. A light source, the matrix display circuit and a magnifying lens are positioned within a display housing such that light from the light source is directed onto the display and an image on the display is magnified by the lens for viewing by a user.

  • Patent number: 5743614
Abstract: A housing is mountable on a carousel slide projector. The housing contains a movable light valve slide assembly that is coupled to a video signal source. The light valve slide assembly is movable between a position within the housing and a position outside the housing. When mounted on the slide projector, the light valve slide assembly can be moved into the projection chamber of the slide projector. The video signal source transmits a video signal to the light valve slide assembly, where the video signal is converted to a drive signal to actuate pixels on the light valve. The light valve thus generates a video image that is projected onto a viewing surface. Preferably the light valve is an active matrix liquid crystal display.

  • Patent number: 5666175
Abstract: An optical and projection system for viewing images produced on an active matrix slide is disclosed. An embodiment of the viewing system includes a graphic user interactive system in which images generated by a computer are controlled by a remote and are viewed on a viewing surface. The remote can be incorporated into the protective endcap of the active matrix slide. The light absorbed by the thin-film transistors of the active matrix can be reduced by tilting the more heavily shielded side of the thin-film transistors towards the light source. The invention further comprises an active matrix having an array of microlenses positioned to receive light from a light source. Each microlens converges and delivers light in a uniform or desired distribution to a corresponding pixel.

  • Patent number: 5396304
Abstract: A display panel is formed using a single crystal thin-film transistors that are transferred to substrates for display fabrication. Pixel arrays form light valves or switches that can be fabricated with color filter elements over the pixel elements. The resulting circuit panel is then incorporated into a color projection display system with a light emitting or liquid crystal material to provide the desired light valve.
